He was in the pound for the weekend because they are closed until Monday at 0800. I brought him home and he was exhausted. He drank about 2 gallons of water yesterday and lay out on the back lawn in the green grass exhausted. He didnt even come to the gate when I got home like he usually does. He slept all day and last nite he didnt bark once. He is usually woofing at the owls in the tree next to our house and barks when the newspaper guy delivers, but not yesterday.
He is hoarse as he can be. I think he probably barked until he made himself hoarse in the pound. Any suggestions to make him get his voice back? Will we just have to wait this one out?

Pound. Impound? Do you mean boarding kennel? Try a drop of honey in some warm water. Helps me when I'm hoarse.

Yeah, you're just gonna wait it out. My childhood dog, a cocker spaniel, used to do this from time to time. Just give it a few days, and he should be fine.
