It was the British Empire that fought Hitler, not just England. If Britain had kept out of the European war, then even if the USA had decided to fight Hitler they would have had no base to fight from. But why should they? Germany was no threat to them. Most probably Germany would have been beaten by Russia eventually. They could have conqured the Soviet Union, because most Russians were terrified of Stalin and the secret police, and they would have flocked to the swastika as liberators, as they did when the invasion first took place. Unfortunately, the Nazis were what they were, and the Russians soon found out that they were even worse than Stalin, and forigners too. I do not think that Germany could have conqurered Russia in the teeth of the kind of opposition that they aroused. They had not enough men or equipment, the Russians had plenty of both, and most of the equipment was equal to or better than the Gerrman gear, and after the initial shock the Russians fought back like tigers. The Russian T34 tank was one of the best of the 2nd ww tanks and they made tens of thousands of them. To give you an idea, the German Panther came out after the T34 and copied some of its ideas, and they only ever made 6,000 Panthers. The Brits and USA would have had their hands full dealing with Japan, and even if Hitler hadn't declared war on Britain and America he would probably have given the Japs modern technology, as he did. Did you know that the Japs built jet fighters modelled on the Me262? they did. They never saw battle, they came too late and they were saving them in case the Allies tried to invade Japan. In Europe the Russians would have steam rollered the German armies back to Germany and then kept going. They would have taken all Europe including Italy. Don't forget, the Russians stayed on the line where they met the allied armies in Europe, and then we were well armed and dangerous. Without that meeting the world would look very different today. I doubt if they would have tried to invade Britain then because by then we had the bomb, and they would be years digesting what they had taken. On the other hand, once they had the bomb they would most likely have tried to get rid of a possible invasion point offshore of their Empire. Stalin was a maniac, a real one, he would probably have nuked the island and then occupied it.
The US would eventually have come to some agreement with them, after all, what else could they do? Without Britain the Empire would have fragmented, as it has since '45 and there would have been no retaliation for the nuking of Britain. Again, how could there be? The system of oppression that Stalin put in place would have continued to this day for there would have been no need to change it and nothing to destroy it. You think the world is in trouble now? Just think about it, and thank God for Winston Churchill, for without him many of the British top people would have caved in to Hitler. There was a strong pro- German faction in Britain then who wanted to do a deal with Hitler, and don't you forget it. Even after the war had started, Hitler's second in command, Rudolf Hess, the second most powerful man in Germany, took a plane and flew to Britain to talk with some of our top people. Who, we don't know, because he was held in solitary confinement and forbidden to speak until the day he died.

England did get involved before 1940 ,The United Kingdom declared war on September the third 1939 . The Americans may well have become involved when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor for it was the Germans who declared war on America declaring that it was "impossible" for them to lose the war given the new hostilities .The Americans readily returned the favour .
Hitler's admiration for the British Empire may well have secured Britain's safety for a while but if Germany supported her allies Italy and Japan then Britain may well have had to declare war on these partner nations should they have threatened British Colonies in Africa and Asia .
Japan , of course invaded British colonies as part of its plan to have access to oil reserves .
Had Germany been effectively aiding its partners then its likely the USA would have been drawn in eventually .

The US wanted to get into the war but needed a good reason. May sound odd but Pearl Harbor was what the doctor ordered. Once we had Japanese Imperialism in our sights, it wasn't difficult for the American public to set it sights on the German dictator. However, your question is interesting as I am not sure what would have been done if England had decided to allow Germany to invade sucessfully. I suppose we would have still supported Stalin and somehow figured out a way to become more friendly with the Russians. Not sure how that would have worked out, but my guess is; Americans have always been pretty smart about selecting allies that would act on it's behalf, we would have muddled along until we won, which more than likely included more than one Big Boy and one Little Boy!!!

If we had not fought in 1939 at some point we'd have woken up and fought anyway: in 1940, 1941.....

Would the outcome have been different? I leave that to the military analysts.

Note however that we had failed to intervene in 1933, 1934......1938. There was, then as now, a strong anti-war, anti-intervention, anti-regime change movement in this country. It's one of life's ironies that (broadly) those who are keenest on antifascism are the fiercest critics of the Iraq intervention. Their ideological ancestors, of course, were just as anti-war in 1938 and 1939 (read the debates in Parliament at that time).

Europe would be speaking Russian. It was the Soviets that gained the upper hand against Germany. The U.S. and England just kind of stirred things up. Once the Soviet Union rolled into Germany, there would have been no armies to the west. The Soviet Union would have filled that void.

If England had not fought, Europe (and the British Isles) would all have ended up as part of the Reich). And maybe the US would either have embraced it (for years US enterprises - including automakers of course - were quite pleased to have the Reich as a business partner). Luckily perhaps, Churchill stood up, and that was that.

If that had happened eventually England would have become comfortable with Hitler. But after Hitler attacked the Soviet Union England probably would have sat that out for awhile to see who would win. The U.S. most likely would have stayed neutral if Japan did not attack.

i'm sure you mean britain. if we hadn't fought against the germans we would probably sued for peace, chances are the germans wouldn't have invaded but we would have been a satelitte of the german empire, the americans would then have had no good reason to get involved even after the japanese bombed pearl harbour.
if the americans hadn't helped us win the war then yes, we would all be speaking german now.

There is a slight chance that all of Europe would have been one German state.
Hitler was CRAZY. He would have eventually forced the UK in one way or another (inavasion, sanctions, etc.) Once that happened, even if Japan would not have attacked at Pearl Harbor, the US would have bailed the UK out. The US was a sleeping giant. That coupled with USSR resistance, Germany would have eventually lost because of spreading their forces too thin.

The US would have gotten involved, you can be sure of that. And the US might not have been able to win if Germany had ruled all of Europe.

Thanks to Britain for their stand against the Nazi aggression. Together, we and many other nations allied ourselves to ultimately win. Neither could have done it without the others.

g-day!
