By holding your fingers over the lit burner?

Okay people....I never said I do that to MY kids!
I always just considered it tough love...it only happened once, I think, and I knew to not go near the stove!

Just kidding :-) . I never had any desire to go near a stove, and I still don't. I can make a mean cold cereal though, and my microwaved ravioli will bring tears to your eyes.

I taught my son and daughter doing that BUT NOT OVER A LIT BURNER!!! I had them briefly touch the CLOSED oven door. They don't go near there anymore and they know what hot means now.. You live, you learn.

No...I once burned my self by accident and I told my daughter and niece "See that's why you don't go near the stover or anything hot". My 20 month old daughter helps me cook (just passes me ingreedents I need and stirs and stuff that she can handle) and she never touches the stove, oven, microwave or toaster.

Of course not, children are very intelligent, by saying is hot, and what may happen, they will understand, my daughter is simply not allowed at the kitchen while cooking, because she knows that an accident will happen. They will believe you without doing that, remember, you are the hero for them!

Uh no, that's abuse. My 2 year old knows that the stove is "hot" and she always tells me it's hot when I'm cooking and won't go near it. There are ways of teaching without using child abuse.
