Why do some disguise their anti-Catholic bigotry behind pedophilia jokes? It is not a laughing matter. And let me tell you a few things:
1) The highest rate of pedophilia crimes happen within families (step-fathers, uncles, etc.). So why don't the jokesters in Y/A complain about step-fathers or uncles? Because they are not really concerned about the issue, they just want to bash Catholics.

2) The percentage of priests who have been accused (not convicted, just accused) of child abuse, falls below the national average. So why don't the haters in Y/A complain about the problem in America in general? Because they are not really concerned about the issue, they just want to bash Catholics.
3) Why are there not similar problems among priests in Africa, Asia, or the Middle East? I mean, if "celibacy" is making them do it (as some claim) or if it a uniquely Catholic problem (which it is not) then it would be happening everywhere, wouldn't it?

So why does it only happen in first-world western nations? Because our culture has become so debased and filthy that all manner of foulness occurs in it, and priests are not super-men: They are sinners like you and I and are not immune from it.

And who do we have to thank for this filthy culture that has developed so rapidly in the last 50 years? The godless heathens and the left-wing liberals. Your rejection of God and Christian values has destroyed the fabric of this country and of Europe too. So the next time you pontificate about the danger children are in, look in the mirror.

I don't think that people are under the impression that the Catholic Church is full of paedophiles. I think the issue here (that you might be missing) is that the Church colluded with the molestors by hiding it from the police and not turning in the offending priests. Then they tried to cover it up once the story broke. That is why people are mad at the church.

I am Roman Catholic. I have been so demoralized with all the information about the priest that I have thrown my hands up. I was molested as a child (2 uncles). I adore the Catholic Mass but that is where I stop the association. I do not fellowship nor am I interested in the what the Vatican has to say about anything.
I have a different take and it's a grudge against men period. They can not be trusted end of story. They can be trusted only when it is obvious that are not up to no good.
I have no problem with this. I think you were eloquent and through in your post.
I am fascinated with the propose of mass however I am haunted by the ugly events all through history that the Church has participated in.

What many anti Catholics fail to do is to investigate the stories of pedophilia in the church. If they had investigated they would know that less then 1/2% of priests world wide were pedophiles, and of that 1/2% they were all homosexuals, and that the Church did what the medical profession (science)said to do, put them in therapy and they will be cured, they also would have found out that the majority of these cases happened in the 50's and 60's and that most of the homosexual pedophile priests are now dead. As for the majority of those claiming they were abused I would say 3/4 of them are liars and just jumped on the band wagon to get some $$$$$.

This has NOTHING to do with celibacy. if that were the case why are the majority of pedophiles married with children.

It has been thus so since the time of Henry VIII. People have forgotten that Catholicism was outlawed in Britain until right up until the late 19th century. Catholics were discriminated against, killed and tortured by the protestant establishment. Priests had to hide in 'priest holes', monasteries were demolished, Catholic land and property was stolen, magnificent architecture and priceless art was deliberately destroyed etc. etc. Protestant thugs from Oliver Cromwell onwards went on the violent rampage in Ireland, killing and looting etc. (no wonder there has been unrest in that country ever since). The bigotry and discrimnation still exists in Britain's laws which continue to ban the Monarch from ever becoming or even marrying a Catholic. And would you credit that the people that committed these crimes against humanity claimed to be Bible believing, God fearing Christians? Just as their successors, the present day bigots claim.

Because Anticatholicism is fashionable and stating that child and teen molesting is a bigger problem in American Public Schools is not fashionable no matter how true it is.

You have put your finger on it: this is a club to beat Catholics which is the end and motive.

The bishops and others who permitted this evil should be jailed as should the PS principals who did this apparently evem more widely.

What is this some kind of sick joke. I`am anti-Catholic openly no need to hide it.
Anti the Catholic church that is not the people. The sick twisted thing about the pedophilia crimes that has taken place numerous times amongst priest - is not only that it happened but how the Catholic Church (The high priest in power) try to hide it. You know what I`am talking about sending the "Accused" to different parishes to hide their dirty little secret.
And it does not stop there. My beef with the Catholic Church is that it is evil. Again I`am drawing a distinction between the doctrine, the followers, and the Church in power in other words the Vatican.
The Church has been evil all throughout history. The Holy war, crusades, witch hunts, Colonial imperialism, Concealing and tampering historical documents, to the modern day pedophiles. It`s sickening!

I`m an atheist so all religions to me are non-sensical. But when it come to the all mighty big bad catholic church, I`am going to go out on a limb here. And say that it is EVIL.
The most powerful, wealthy, and corrupt church in history. I wish the Vatican would burn baby burn, and I was absolutely elated when the last Pope died.

Bravo!!!! Encore!!!

I've brought something similar to this up about the Virginia Tech massacre and how our society made Cho worse. You would not believe the number of thumbs downs I got for that. Everyone wants to blame the nut job when we are the ones responsible for it. Do you honestly think he would have been able to kill so many people without training himself using a video game. Oh but that's ok because he was already 'depressed'. That's no excuse. Your entertainment should not come at the price of someone else's life.

Hello,

True. When mothers tell me, "I don't let my child talk to strangers!" I reply that in the vast majority of sexual abuse cases it is her brother, dad or close friends she should worry about... not the strangers. Also hockey, karate and football coaches have been more in the limelight in my country now being charged with sexual abuse on minors.

Actually the other Christian denominations have had some awful sexual abuse problems but as you know there are hundreds and hundreds of them from the United and Anglican Church to Swaggart and Tammy Faye type denominations and it is a vast task to hunt their deeds and problems down since they are not concentrated in one big corporate like entity such as the Roman Catholic church which is far easier to pick on. Let all other churches free of any scandal cast the first stone so to speak.

Finally in all my years in the church , even as an altar boy I never saw anything like this sort of abuse. One mistake the church made was settling out of court rather than turning in the culprits since many liars and false stories are going to come up out of the blue to get a piece of the big cash cow.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Just wondering if your comment that you begin with could be construed as an attempt to minimalize the problem by resorting to an ad hominem.

You claim the frequency of priests who have committed pedophilia is below the national average, but is this really something to boast about?

Realistically, shouldn't there be NO clergy guilty of this? Are we (you and I) to ignore the warnings spoken by Christ and recorded in Scripture regarding the behaviour of ministers/priests and how we are to judge them and dismiss them?

Are we to condone pedophiles because they are priests, or condemn them, regardless of whether they are priests?

.

ooh it happens in all nations
it is just more publicized in the media here
hence all the criticism
your problem lies with the media which is how we get the majority of our knowledge--there are pedophiles everywhere including Africa, Asia, or the Middle East and anywhere else you can think of and in every religion
how many stories do you hear about uncles and step fathers?? doesnt mean its not true --just means our ears dont hear bout it--get it?
