I know a lot of friends who are coming up to that age! and lots of them are having tattoos done for the first time, did you have your first tattoo later in life? or have you been drawn on from a younger age?
I do not have any, my partner does, I go with what Ozzy osbourne said
' if you want to be different don't have any *******tattoos!'

I got my first 2 when I was 39. I'm having another this year (I'm 40) and that will probably be it. I've been thinking about it on and off since I was about 20, but hadn't a design or even a style in mind. A friend of mine who's a year younger went and got his first one a couple of years ago - a superb black/grey mask on his belly, and when I saw the quality of it and how good it looked I knew I had to get my finger out and choose a design. He's now well on his way to a full body suit - far too much for me but whatever makes him happy!

Re-cycled teenager? No way!
Mid-life crisis? Possibly, but who cares? Not me.

I'm a professional person in a good job. None of my tats are on show, so none of them are noticeable in my meetings with CEOs and other top execs, so whose business is it but mine (and possibly my wife's) if I've got tats??

To all those narrow minded freaks who keep saying "they'll look gross when you're old and wrinkly" - who cares? You're not going to be looking at them, so sod off! Besides, if they're positioned correctly, wrinkles won't affect them.

Personally, I say if it's what you want, *u** everyone - including Ozzy (I suspect he would agree with that sentiment). Age should be irrelevant, but for some turning a given age is kind of a *h** of get off the pot kind of moment.

This isn't quite why I got mine when I did, but it's close enough and I'm too lazy & busy to include nuance here (you'd be bored with it anyhow).

On the other hand, if someone is still looking for approval at whatever age, then he's right. Doing it just to be "different" - which really translates into "popular" in this situation - is pretty dumb.

Hi there,

I noted what you had to say with deep Interest. I have always wanted to have "Just One Tattoo", (A Special one, well at least special "To Me"). My problem has always been I have been too nervous?, to have It done.
Now I am Sixty Five, I still want to "Have this Particular Tattoo done", so I guess "At Forty"?, you are "Just a Pup". If It means So much to you?, just go for It.Know body else will do It for you that's for sure. Best of luck.

P.S.
As to the comments about older people being all "Wrinkly', and getting Tattoo,s I don't think that's true. I mean I am Old at Sixty Five?, however, I am certainly not wrinkly. This was a comment someone else made reference your query.

As long as you are doing it because you want to do it, not just to prove something to others, I say go for it. I got my first tattoo at a young age, but it means a lot to me, hence I love it.

I was watching miami Ink one night and there was an 80+ year old woman getting her first tattoo. I thought that was really cool.

first a warning... tattoos are addictive... 1 leads to 2 & 2 leads to 20. I got 4 right now & have several ready to be stabbed on once I have the money. I'm waiting for my mother to be ready for her first one & she's almost 50. I've been told the longer you wait on getting one the more meaning it has. I don't see tattoos as a way of being different I see them as part of me & they make me happy.

I have always been interested in tattoo since I was 6 or 7. I have 2 but they are in places that no one sees unless I want them to because they are a personal thing for me. I dont think that tattoos are something to be taken lightly. I think that every single line should have meaning, so when you are 80 they aren't stupid. But I don't want everyone seeing my personal battles and I dont want everyone seeing my tattoos.

I just turned 40 and have said for the last 10 years that "when I turn 40, I'm getting one". Well, someone gave me a gift certificate so I can hardly back out now. I'll probably have it done on my shoulder or the back of my neck. My real dilemma is what to get.
