The jet plane was not an invention, it was an engineering evolution.
Frank Whittle is credited as the inventor of the turbo-jet and the He-178 is the world's first jet airplane.

An englishman named Whittle built the first Jet Engine. But he never mounted it on an aircraft, lack of power, then lack of funding for a new one.
Heinkel in Germany built, and flew, the first jet powered aircraft in the world. Later Messerschmidt built the first jet fighter to enter military service. Arado built the first jet bomber.

Superman, He was flying in a WW1 airplane when the engine crapped out. He dropped his pants, Laid on his stomach on the top wing and farted with superhuman strength. It worked well enough to get to an airport. Or the Germans, in ww2. Frank Whittle of England may have invented the jet engine.

"How 'Bout Them Yankees" The wright brothers were among the first flyers not the first aircraft inventors...
Infact I read somewhere that the wright brothers were not even the first people to fly. Before the 1920s aircrafts were made of wood. Then during the wars they found metal to be better...
