It could be something from the rear diff., it could be your rear end gears...or a wheel bearing could be going bad (had two go out on my 2000 gt).

Sounds like the gears are out of alignment.
Support rear of car on jack stands
Block the front tires
remove the rear end cover - you'll need a gasket and drain pan
Coat the gears in a thick grease - you 'll want gear oil later
Turn the wheels and see if the gears are tracking correctly
There are shims in there.
Lastly clean it all out extremly well
new gasket
refill with proper gear oil
and get it off the stands

Could be your lube low in rear end, or bears like other two said: If you have been driving through a lot of water could also be some water has gotten in your rear end as well. Had that happen a couple of times to me.
If lube just low check for a leaking seal.

If you did your breaks recently then you probably overtightened the bearing when replacing it. Jack your car up and spin the wheel it should move freely, spin it in your hands and see if you can feel it grab anywhere. Also rock the wheel from side to side there should be a wee bit of play init. But seriously you should stop driving the car because as the others said if it is the bearing then the wheel will come off.

if you have aftermarket rear diffs then i almost bet my life thats what you are hearing. let me guess you have 3.73 in there because you were tired of getting bullied by the camaros and trans am's and even the firebirds made you edgie. yes am i not right. so you went out and bought the different gears like 3.55 or higher so you wouldnt have to sweet it as much at a red light. come on admit it i know i am right. i have seen this countless times. so you probably had it done at some podunk garage and they didnt follow the manual that suggests using the parts that ford racing or the others suggest and they did it there way.(did you hear a lot of unnecessary banging coming from out back)? you did didnt you! well to make a long story short its the diffs and you are now screwed and even putting the stock ones back in will probably have little to no effect on that ear screeching sound now coming from the back of your oh so noisy steed.

Get the fluid checked out in your rear differential, make sure it hasn't been leaking. Sounds like possible gear grinding.

If it's a steady grinding then it's probably axles or axle bearings, if it's a growling that increases with speed but doesn't go away when letting off the gas then it's probably pinion bearings, if its' a howling that changes on/off the gas then it's either carrier bearings or a ring and pinion, most of the time ring and pinion howl is only in a certain mph range.

It could easily be a wheel bearing.
A lot of times a good technician can detect that during a brake job or alignment.
Bearings should be good for 100,000 miles or more, but I've had to replace them in two Fords well before 100K.
Get it checked out ASAP.
