My 8 year old daughter vomited all over her floor early this morning so I kept her home from school. It is now 3:30p.m. and she's been asleep all day. She hasn't been up for more than a few minutes. She hasn't eaten or drank anything all day and she insists that she doesn't want anything. She's not running a temperature and hasn't been at all.

What can I give her besides Pedialyte that will keep her nourished? She hates the Pedialyte stuff.

I haven't given her any medicines for fear that she would throw it up.

CALL THE PEDIATRICIAN JUST TO BE SAFE. She may have a virus or food poisoning. Don't guess; just call!

she probably has the stomach flu. Let her sleep, that is the best thing for her. Give her the Gatorade( small amounts) and wait 15 minutes, if she doesn't throw it up give her a tiny bit more. If she throws it up right away, have her go back to sleep for a bit.
If this goes on tomorrow call her pediatrician, and he/ she might recommend giving her Donatal ( it helps with nausea and it will make her sleep.) they have a suppository also, that will make her sleep. The longer she sleeps, the less likely she'll barf.
This happened to my daughter when she was the same age, it was a nasty stomach flu. She'll be okay. Keep an eye on her temperature if she does get one, call her ped.
Her body is protecting her a bit by having her sleep so much. Her little body is just worn out.
Can I give you a little extra advice coming from a mom of three?
Let her stay home from school for at least two days after she is feeling better, she may want to go back; but let her body get stong again before you send her back. That is the best thing you could do.
If you need anything else ( moral support or a pep talk) you can e mail me.
I'll be praying for you both. I just got over the flu, it took me a full week to recover. I didn't eat much in 7 days. She'll feel better doon.

Its probably just a bug or possibly something she ate. If she doesn't show any signs of improvement in the next 24 hours I would call the Dr. These illnesses usually get better in 12 to 24 hours. The pedialyte is a good idea. Don't push her to drink too much. Just have her sip on it. Too much on her stomach will only make her uncomfortable. Crushed ice is also good. Hope she feels better soon!!

Try giving her Gatorade or the freeze pops made by Pedialyte. She may have a stomach virus, so you should call her peditrician immediately! Don't wait until she can't take any more fluids or looks too lethargic, it's dangerous and she should be seen by the doc. I hope she gets better soon, good luck to you!

Nourishment is very important But not as important as water you MUST NOT alow her to dehydrate any drinks will do water is best but you've got to keep fluids in her system if she is'nt eating
and not drinking plenty then at her age it could end up critical if after 24 hours of first vomiting she is still unable to eat or continues to vomit you must take her to the doctor as it could be serious

I hope its just a stomach bug but be safe and have it checked

Gatorade is basically the same thing as Pedialyte. If she doesn't want to drink that either, give her popsicles or anything that will get some liquid into her. Dehydration happens so quickly, especially in children so she needs to get something in her now. Try warm seven up or ginger ale, that is very soothing on the tummy or just warm up some chicken broth (without the noodles). Anything so long as she gets some sort of liquid into her. Call her doc if you still aren't able to get her to eat or drink anything. Like I said, dehydration happens fast so he'll want you to watch for the warning signs of it.

Besides Pedialyte, coconut water is great to give because it restores the electrolytes that she is losing in her body. It also will keep her hydrated.

Hope she gets well soon.

Well, I got like that all the time when I was younger, and I still get it sometimes. Really its good that she sleeps, and you are not really hungry when you are sick like that. Only if she feels up to it, I would ask her about some toast and jelly, that always helped me. It was good to keep her home! I would give her a bottle of water at least for when she wakes up.
Hope she gets better!
Hope this helps!

If she doesn't like Pedialyte you might want to try Gatorade or Power Ade which are made to rehydrate.
