In the past I have had two teachers that have become convicted of molesting or sexually harrassing children in there families or even in the school. I mean what the heck is wrong with those people? I need to know what in their right mind would make them want to do something like that to little kids. Be serious and no fooling around with stupid comments.

So out of all your school years TWO teachers have done wrong and therefore that means ALL teachers are molesters? NOT TRUE. I'm sorry that you have encountered such horrific happenings but not all teachers are child molesters.

Some priests have been known to molest boys, police have been known to as well. This, of course, does not mean that all do it.

I think if you thought of it this way: some people have molested children. This does not imply that ALL people have molested children.

I was molested for 12 years of my childhood. I still have faith that not all teachers, preachers, social workers, police men, fathers, grand fathers, uncles, mother's boyfriends are child molesters. There are good teachers in the world. I hope that you find that out for yourself. It's terrible that two teachers molested children but not all do. Please don't allow yourself to become jaded. It does no good to you. Trust me I know. Years of therapy later and I hope I've at least learned that.

The greatest quote I've ever read or heard was at the end of Anne Frank's Diary. "I still believe that people in general are good". That's not a direct quote, I believe she worded it differently but it's the same thought. 6 million people died, including herself, and yet she still thought people were good. That's a great lesson. Don't allow what a few have done to become a bitter place within you. Know that there are still good teachers that children can benefit from. The world is a big and scary place, you just need to find your own peace in it. There is peace in the world for everyone who chooses to find it.

I am not trying to be sarcastic or rude in my answer. I am trying to speak from my heart to yours.

They become teachers because it's easy access. Kids don't roam the halls of office buildings--they roam the halls of schools.

As far as what makes a pedophile decide he/she is a pedophile--that's beyond me. I've never been nor will I ever be a pedophile and being one is the only way to know what they are thinking therefore I can't know.

I do know this, though. Take a look at someone like Michael Jackson (assuming he is a child molester..again, I don't know). But, Michael Jackson was abused very much as a child--physically, mentally, and emotionally. Why does someone like Michael Jackson like little kids? Because kids don't hurt him and never have. Adults, on the other hand, have hurt him very much.

But this isn't the case with all pedophiles. Each one is different although we would probably just consider them all "sickos".

Wait a minute. Are you calling me a child molester. I'm a primary school teacher in a school in South Africa. I hope you don't call all the teachers child molesters, atleast I'm not. I love my job teaching little kids Afrikaans and English. Teaching them how to read and write. I know that there are odd teachers here and there who do such stuff, but that doesnt mean you call all teachers child molesters. Those people who are child molesters obviously want to become teachers so they can get close to students(kids).

Not all child molesters are teachers. but if they do become a teacher just for the simple fact that they are a child molestor, common sense would tell you that it's because they can get real close to children that way.

It's not so hard to understand if you stop thinking of them as "monsters" (they aren't any more likely to be ax murderers than anyone in the general population) and think of them as people who sincerely care about kids, but who let their sex drives and other emotional needs get in the way of their judgment. (I'm referring to "ordinary" pedophiles, not mom's boyfriend who gets drunk and rapes her 6 year old daughter). Many more teachers- and coaches-of-the-year are pedophiles than you ever hear about, they just do a better job of keeping their urges under control or find satisfaction in some other way than sexual contact. Many times they go into such professions just to be around kids and to try to be a positive influence, not with the intent of molesting them, but once in that environment, they find that the opportunities are much harder to resist than they imagined.

They also tend to delude themselves into believing that children cooperate out of enjoyment, and don't see themselves as the child does: an adult authority figure, several times the child's size, someone one doesn't say "no" to.

Not to defend their actions, but it's rare that a child is injured in any way when molested under those circumstances, since the person generally expects to still be employed the next day. Sometimes well-meaning adults do far more harm by their own reaction to the incident and by not comprehending that sex feels good even to an 8 year old.

Btw, I was surprised by the way "NYPD Blue" handled a case in which a man paid a 14 year old homeless boy to masturbate in front of him. Rick Schroeder's character was sympathetic to the man, and hoped he'd get help, but ignored the boy's beating himself up over what he'd done instead of reassuring him that sometimes we have to do what we have to do to survive.

That's how they can have access to a large population of children to find the easiest target.
That's why I guard my kids much more closely at places like McDonald's, Chuck E. Cheese's, Playgrounds, bus stops, scouts, school and in my own backyard... pedophiles go shopping in the kid's sections of the world to get what they want.

As for what makes a pedophile: they were a victim once upon a time. Their sexual ideas were turned on too early, and warped. They associate sexual excitment with their own childhood. Childhood itself is a time of freedom and little or no pressure of responsibility and a great deal of fun and games. People who have been sexually abused as children and have a hard time facing adulthood (mostly men in today's society, as their role in society had been fuzzed out into gender role hell= basically unable to conform to a single outline of what is expected. Or women who are expected to be breadwinner and perfect mother functioning simultaineously)...have a higher propensity of becoming a perpetraitor than those who welcome adulthood and it's escape from their "hellish abusive childhood".

In short- pedophiles were once victims themselves.

Seriously, from the news, I thought a lot of them were priests/ministers/whathaveyou.
In the old days they would have been hung, shot, tarred and feathered, stoned... That is probably why there are so many; if they get caught, they receive a token punishment, such as having to register! They ruin lives and often don't even do jail time.
Write your politicians and demand harsher punishment.
