I am having a difficult time deciding on what I should take. I have been taking classes for the Nursing program, but wonder if the Surgical Tech program is better for me. Is there anyone out there that knows anything about the Surgical Tech program and can give me some advice? Thanks!

Hi hotmama,

you have to do what your heart desires...........

I am a RN, and love it because I can go anywhere I want to.

I can work in ER or I can work in the OR or I can work

anywhere they need a nurse.

When you are a surgical techs, you are stuck in surgery. You

will face surgeon and nurses that are rude and throw

instruments..........you will always be surrounded by them. granted not all are like that......a lot are nice........but you know, you can't go anywhere else, but stay in the OR.........I don't know about u but that sounds boring to me,......

When you are nurse, you can expand your knowledge and go

anywhere you want.

FOLLOW UR HEART AND DO WHAT MAKES U HAPPY, u

r d 1 that is going to live it not others!!! take care, good luck

Neither, Imaging is the way to go. Surg Tech doesn't pay enough and you are at the mercy of surgeons. Nursing is a thankless job with terrible hours, if you want to work like a dog for 12 hours a day go for it. This is the advise I've given many times, if you have computer skills, like working with one patient at a time and find being paid well a bonus, look into Ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, anything in the imaging field. Good Luck!

The Nursing market is almost saturated. With Hospitals buying each other up and the recent flood of Nursing school graduates there is now competition for the jobs as opposed to just two years when there were too many jobs and not enough nurses.

Surgical Techs will always be in demand. If it was my money being spent on school I would be the surgical tech.

The nursing market is not saturated, they are desperate for nurses. As a nurse you could work in surgery. Many hospitals train their own surgical techs, and really the demand is not that high. You would have more career options as a nurse, such as travel nursing (big pay, travel where ever you want), para legal nurse, acute care nursing, long term care, home care, clinical teaching, scrub nurse in surgery, and the list goes on and on.

The Surgical Tech would be more interesting,
if it's in you,
to work in that Field.

There is high demand for both. Surg tech would be interesting and you only have to go to school for one year.

I would go for the nursing, then wait in a few years, go for RNP,(Registered Nurse Practitioner).

Go for the RN. It'll really pay off.
