Hell no.

Coffee is a powerful drug, and if you're so constipated you need to use it as a laxitive the coffee is only adding to your problems.

Coffee can induce bowel movement but can also cause constipation, this is because the caffeine and its stimulant effect stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, which can slow or shut down movement and absorption in the gastro intestinal tract.

This causes the GI tract, with its now inhibited motion, to dump what contents it has, since its not digesting them any further. This is where the sudden urge to defacate soon after drinking coffee comes in. However because of this reduced GI motility, things you eat throughout the rest of the day may be digested very poorly and sluggishly, and the low rate of GI movement can mean that food is not able to pass properly through the GI tract, thus resulting in long term constipation, with a bowel movement once a day after the first dose of coffee.

For the record, there are no safe long term laxatives.

If you're having issues with constipation I'd recomend you see a practitioner of chinese medicine for acupuncture and chinese herbs. Constipation is very very easy to treat with chinese medicine, and while short term use of laxitive herbs is sometimes neccessary, there really shouldnt ever be a need for long term use of any laxatives.

Try prune juice. I used to be additionally given Lactulose that is reliable to make use of in being pregnant. There is a natural comfort known as Senna which could also be reliable. Drinking tons extra water additionally is helping. Probiotic yoghurt known as activia made me extra consistent too. Pregnancy sucks from time to time.

If you need a laxative, it's best to take a stool softener to move things along. Caffiene often causes the bowels to move, but it may not have the desired effect if constipation is the problem.
