I recently took the written test for the Sherriffs Dept, and Fire Dept. I past both and am now waiting to be notified on taking the physical tests including vision, Unfortunately I have lost complete vision in my left eye but have near to perfect vision in my right eye, does this handycap exclude my candidacy from either or both departments???? other than this small detail I am in exceptional physical shape and feel I can perform all the required duties with ease.!!!

You need to check with those agencies you applied for.

In law enforcement you must have correctable vision to 20/20 with the ability to see your targets!

I imagine the fire services are similar.

Again...check with the agencies...they should have a statement of minimum requirements.

All police and fire departments are going to send you through a very comprehensive physical before you are selected for being hired.

I can tell you that no law enforcement agency that I know of will hire you if you only have vision in one eye. Police and fire departments are exempt from many rules of the Americans With Disabilities Act due to the demands of the job.

I would go to them immediately and find out their policy before you continue any further.

ask them, they will have the answer. having vision in one eye affects depth perception. not a good thing if you need to use your weapon. fire dept may be OK with it though or even the correction dept at the county jail

Odds are good that is a disqualification for both.
