I live in the bible belt and often have really nice people approach me wanting to share and teach religious info.

How are they any more able to know truth than I am? Just curious. How are they sure they are right in what they say?

Thanks.

(((((I suppose I could summise from the answers below that someone who THINKS he's right is probably wrong and that I shouldn't listen to him... ????))))

This subject often seems more like an aggressive pissing match than anything else. Doesn't it?!

They aren't able to know the truth of religion anymore than anyone else is. They might be able to teach you what they believe to be religious truths, especially if they've actually taken the time and devoted their study to whatever they call religion, but there is no absolute truth, and no way for one person to claim they know all. Even Christians who spend years of their life studying the Bible can't claim to fully understand their faith, because religion, in most of it's definitions, must be at least semi-divine. The simply have faith in what they say, and what they teach is right, perhaps convinced by some life experience or another, and just for the record, I'm not Christian.

Take what you need and leave the rest. That's all I have to say about that. The problem may come when you start asking questions that are a bit to deep for them they could begin to turn on you . Religion & politics avoid them in public groups.

Hopefully they are Christians and have read the bible. 1st. Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God : for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them: because they are spiritually discerned.

Because Jesus is truth. And Jesus lives within us as the Holy Spirit is given to us and teaches us all things about the Lord.

:) As much as I myself appreciate people's point of views and answers anytime, anywhere, I still take the advice in the Bible and ASK GOD about them before I file anything away in my brain or heart as to what is "Truth" or not.....

.....hopefully you are all doing the same?!

Peace be with you :)

If their information is found in the scriptures and they are studying Gods Word then they probably know more about God than you do.

"Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."

God doesnt lie, and we have the truth in His Word to measure all other so called truth with. Thats how we KNOW.

Through maturity in the faith, you understand because the holy spirit is helping you. The bible declares that 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.

I can make a better argument that atheists are on the right path even if there is a god.

Follow the golden rule if someone tries to convert shouldn't you see it as them inviting conversion.

Just practice this, until you can rattle it off perfectly...

Who?... Jesus?... Oh, yeah, I've heard of him... isn't he the cosmic Jewish zombie, who's his own father, and can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced, by a talking snake with legs, to eat a piece of fruit from a magical tree... (etc.)... and that there is something horribly wrong with people who ARE NOT so gullible and droolingly stupid as to believe such outrageously ridiculous codswallop? Right?

Say... you DO know that's insane... right?
