Loved the answer citing "sentence enhancers"! People cuss for different reasons, and sometimes it's just that. I used to believe the truism about it being a sign of ignorance until I met one of the smartest people I've ever known (he translated Latin poetry for fun), who was a world class cusser. If you enjoy the sound of words, sometimes they just sound funny. Comedians have talked about the funniest sounds (certain consonants in particular) and cusswords share a lot of those same sounds.
As another comedian said, in New York City, f*** isn't a cussword, it's a comma. It's almost part of the air you breathe.

Cussing or swearing as we call it here in UK, is a harmless way of letting off steam and everyone from the highest in the land to the lowliest chav swears and cusses.
Drop a hammer on your toe and cuss. It takes away the pain, almost.
Cussin' Brit!

A) They grew up in an environment where cussing was just how you spoke, and thus they consider it a part of normal speech
B) They grew up in an environment where cussing was used to express frustration/release anger or other undesirable emotion
It's learned. A part of the environment.

I cuss when I get angry, and often I use cuss words in my everyday conversation, sometimes it just helps me get my point across. I wish I didn't cuss so much.

Because people are potty mouths. When I cuss, I really mean it because I'm angry, etc. and it helps me feel like I'm conveying the message better. I just don't understand why some people have to put a million and one cusswords in every sentence they say.

It just becomes a habit. And sometimes it just fits. Have you ever tried watching a movie with the cuss words bleeped out? It is not as good to me.

I think most of the time it is to let off steam, but really, I have always thot that cussing denoted a limited vocabulary and problems with anger. Thats just my personal opinion tho.

its a way to better express yourself its just another language like Spanish or German for example many cuss words can have a number of different meanings *** can be another word for butt ***** is a female dog **** is the word for having sex a **** is a mans name or any of thee above can be used as insulting names when agree for example during fits of road rage when some one cuts you off you would yell" you stupid ***** what the **** are you thinking" or when you find out your girlfriend of 6 years has just cheated on you with your best friend you would say "your a **** sucking slut"etc. so you see it really is just another language and if you learn it real well pretty soon you will be able to speak it fluently like me

I have never heard swearing as i do here in the UK. Even the smallest , youngest little children here use bad language. [Some of them]. Personally i think they pick it up from the kids at school and some of the parents. Not a nice way to talk at all.:)
