It is a two way covenant: The other half is that men are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. How? By laying down their lives for their wives. I think a woman may defer headship of the household to a man like THAT. The problem many women face these days is that there are not many men like that around today. The "men" I see walking around the Bay area are not worthy of the title.

I am a Christian and a husband.
It means nothing to me, that Paul was a product of a patriarchal society and patriarchy is temporal and cultural.
Within Christianity kicking out a verse like that gets you blasted for "picking and choosing." However, I would argue that every Christian HAS to pick and choose because the Bible contains two separate value systems. Easy example - Proverbs says that good people will be rewarded on earth and bad people will be punished by God, Ecclesiastes says that because of time and chance your fortune in this life has little to do with how good or bad you are, Job says that question's all a mystery and who the hell knows.
You have to choose which you will follow based on something external to the Bible. I offer the defining criteria for myself: supporting Life and Love good, diminishing those things is bad. If I love my neighbor (my wife) as myself, I can't very well expect her to sacrifice to me more than I would to her, can I? So, yes I pick and choose and I'll put that up against any other person who reject the Golden Rule in order to support patriarchy.
Hope that helps!

The man is the leader of the house hold. He is the spiritual leader. This doesn't mean that women must bow down to man or to walk behind. When it comes to bible study, prayers and blessings, the man should lead. If he don't then the women should but men you will be held accountable.

Christanity- I'd say that she's obedient not only to me but to God because through Paul He instructed woman to let the husband have 'authority' over them. She'd also be considered a good woman because things that I ask her to do she would do, not saying that I am chauvernistic but I'd consider myself lucky to have a submissive wife-expecially in these days.

I'm a Christian, and my wife submitting to me I believe is in terms of leadership. I'm not better than she is, and I don't own her, it's just that the final say in a lot of matters lies with me. Most of the time we are in complete agreement anyway.

It's just an old notion that some morons still cling to, kind of like how they still call it the "War of Northern Aggression" down south, and talk about it like it was yesterday. Just another one of the reasons rednecks love the good ol' days.

The Bible states that she should submit to her husband as she would to Christ. The husband is the spiritual leader of the house. It also states that the husband should love his wife as he loves Christ. There can be no great love for anyone than the love we have for Christ.

It means society in Biblical times was highly patriarchal, and much of that crap has only persisted in modern times due to religion.
