I find it interesting that the media seems to write about the hundreds of troops that are against the war, but totally ignores the tens of thousands that support it. They have that right, it is America. I just hope that there aren't people that think that the majority of the troops feel that way.

Maybe the supporters are just enjoying the freedom that they fought for.

Most of them realize that the big gripe is more about the war than the military but it still disheartens them.

Everyone we know (military wise), KNOWS why we are in Iraq and believes in what they are doing over there. They honestly believe if they had not gone over there then more terrorists attacks would have taken place here and just wish others understood better. They would rather fight over there then have the fighting come to America. Luckily my husband doesn't let this bother him, he knew war was a possibility when he joined the Marines and doesn't get a choice on whether he agrees with the war or not, he's going to do his duty.

If they truly "support out troops" then they need to sit back, be quiet and let them do their jobs instead of causing disparity in their lives!!!!!!

It's possible to support the troops but be against the war. The big problem here is trying to understand why people are against the war. If they are against the war because they don't like the idea of American men and women being killed in Iraq, that's understandable. However, people who don't support the war because they believe we're fighting a war for oil or that we're not fighting terrorists in Iraq are sadly misinformed. Did you see the Yahoo story yesterday talking about the drop in the casualty rate? If you read through the article, you'll note that over 60 suspected al-Qaeda terrorists were killed in one engagement last month. Even worse, those who don't support the war because they think all wars are wrong are not only narrow-minded, they are also NOT supporting the troops by any stretch of the imagination. If you're opposed to all war, you're opposed to those who wear the uniform and get called to fight. Plain and simple.

So my role as a soldier and one who has been to the sandbox is to try to understand why people don't support the war in Iraq, respect their opinions, and try to educate those who are basing their opinions on misinformation.

I see this question has brought out the Wannabees in force. I can and do support every member of the military. I am a Vietnam Vet, how could I not. Here is the difference. In one case you are talking about Men and Women that signed up to do a job. On the other hand you are talking about a policy set forth by those elected to office. Therefore, I can support the men and women, and not the policy. Thought most of you would have learned that in the 60's and 70's.

I think it would depend on the troop. Some troops support the war in Iraq and some don't. Maybe some don't because our borders at home are not secure, because the government lets illegal aliens in, and issues them driver's licenses, wants to grant them amnesty, wants to allow Mexican truckers on our highways with little or no regulation, and wanted to turn our ports over to Dubai. Maybe they think their services would be better spent in the U.S. Maybe because the government did nothing to prevent terrorism at home, and let Bin Laden and his family go free. Maybe some do in order to overthrow Saddam Hussein who would not repay his war debt to the US, when we supported Iraq in the Iran-Iraq war even though he was a billionaire, and Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world.

Not much. they do what they do because they are there to do it. It's a different world to be in a combat zone and serving as opposed to being stateside and running your mouth.

They get it. they signed up for it. All of them understand that there are plenty of folks opposed to the war but what those folks think doesn't matter to them or their mission. To think otherwise will get you killed in a combat zone.

To date the War is being fought for by an entirely VOLUNTEER force. Most if not all had a clue going in what the deal was...mindless politically yapping aside.

They are one in the same, so I call BULLSH T on that.

I guess these people support the drug dealers but not the drugs or the child molesters but not the molestation itself? They are one in the same, you can't have one without the other.

As far as the troops who don't support the war. Why are they there then? Do they not have a choice? Would you go to jail or would you take part in something that you truly don't believe in? They are cowards who would rather go along with it, than deal with the very minor consequences for disobeying an order.

If I truly did not believe in something, there is nothing that you could do to me to make me take part in it.

So... much like the supporters, they just don't have the spine, or more import the courage in their convictions to do what they feel is right.

If you don't support my cause than spare me your support because I don't want your half-assed sh t.

I regard anybody who claims to 'support the troops but not the war' as being liars. In reality they support neither but just claim to "support the troops" because it sounds good.

Either you support what we are trying to do in Iraq - or you support what the enemy is doing.

In my opinion the vast majority of those who "support the troops but not the war" are liars. How are you going to tell me you support me, and then turn around and say that the thousands of people who've died in support of Iraqi Freedom and American security died for nothing? Worse still are those who claim we're over there dying for oil or that we're being used for genocide and such (thanks, Rich M, for that).

I have 4 family members in the marines and none of them care what people say about the war. They are all in the marines to serve their country and to fight so that these people have the right to say what they want to say.
