Is it dangerous to have a tonsil stone in your throat for a long period of time? For a few days I felt something in my throat on the left side. I thought it had something to do with that it started a few days after I had my upper left wisdom tooth extracted. (I'm still not convinced it's not related.) I looked with a flashlight and saw a white spot on what I think is my left tonsil. When I went for a recheck with the oral surgeon to see how the tooth extraction site was healing, I showed it to him, he said it had nothing to do with the wisdom tooth and that it was a tonsil stone. He gave a syringe to irrigate my throat with, and said I probably had these before since I have sinus problems all my life, but never noticed. Anyway, the spot is still there, but it is not bothering me as much and I think it MIGHT be a little smaller. I am using a waterpik and am gargling often, but its still there. I have a bad gag reflex so I can't try to get it any other way. Will it come out on its own?

Tonsil stones are foul-smelling globs of mucous and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. The scientific name for these white globs is tonsilloliths.
Tonsil Stones don't do any physical harm, and sporadically coughing them up doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with you. However they can be annoying (who wants to cough one up when they are kissing someone!), and sometimes they are an indication that you have bad breath.
Tonsil stones are mostly made by mucus, so see if you are not suffering from post nasal drip due to allergies, sinusitis or acid reflux. Once you manage to control the drip, it´s likely they will disappear.
You can use a wooden swab (the ones with long wooden sticks) and dip it in Listerine (the original one) and try to dislodge them, but they are nothing more than a nuisance.

I just recently noticed for the first time a few tonsil stones or white spots on my right tonsil..
Here is what I did:
I gargled for a few nights in a row using a "Colgate" brand peroxide solution for oral washing. It's simply hydrogen peroxide solution so you could just use that. Be careful not to swallow it. If you swallow more than the amount you use for gargling, (about 10 cc) you are in trouble and need to contact a poison control center. It's OK if you swallow a little bit.
After about 5 nights of gargles they went away.
I don't know if this means the gargles took them away or if it was just the timing being right.
But I believe that it helped.
Give it a try

As a health care tip; gargling with mouthwash, scraping ones tongue, frequent and regular brushing of one’s teeth can help to prevent development of the tonsil stones as well as bad breath. Tonsil stones are quite asymptomatic and, at most times do not create any major complications, because most of them can be simply coughed up accidentally. The irritating factor with the stones is the problem of dealing with bad breath, but with the banish tonsil stones tips, bad breath and the formation of tonsil stones can be greatly reduced and completely prevented.there a book from Diane puttman about steps & methods detailed in "Banish tonsil stones"

HELLO,
I CAN ALSO TELL YOU THAT THE TONSIL STONE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A WISDOM TOOTH.
THE TONSILS, WHEN THEY WORK NORMALLY, SERVE TO KEEP YOU FROM GETTING THROAT INFECTIONS. THEY ARE LYMPHATIC GLANDS WHICH TRAP BACTERIA IN LYMPHATIC FLUID THAT SOMETIMES BACKS UP INTO SOLID MASSES, AKA "STONES."
THESE USUALLY DISLODGE AND ARE LOST W/O ANY PROBLEMS.
THEY CAN BE SAFELY BE REMOVED BY USING A WATERPIK PULSATING STREAM ON THEN FOR A BRIEF MOMENT.
THEY DO COME OUT ON THEIR OWN AND IF YOU TRY TO CRUSH NE BETWEEN YOUR FINGERS, YOU WILL END UP WITH A VERY SMELLY MESS.
YOU WILL BE JUST FINE. MOST PEOPLE WITH TONSILS NEVER EVEN KNOW ABOUT THESE.

it sure does have to do with your wisdom tooth.
Protruding tonsilloliths have the feel of a foreign object, lodged between the outside of wisdom teeth and the temporomandibular joint region of the fleshed jaw. They may be an especially uncomfortable nuisance, but are not often .
check this site out..this will also help you on how to remove it.
