Extractions that require more expertise than a general dentist can provide... teeth that are bony impactions, root tip extractions, etc.. An oral surgeon also does dental implants, oral reconstruction, and deals with TMJ issues....They can also sedate patients with IV's if requested....and the vital signs are monitored while the patient is 'under'...

Those are the first things that popped into my head!

GENERALLY, ALL TYPES OF EXTRACTIONS WHICH THE GENERAL DENTIST MAY NOT DO AND VARIOUS RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGICAL PROCEDURES. HE/SHE DOESN'T DO DENTAL RESTORATIVE, SUCH AS FILLINGS, DENTURES, BRIDGES, ETC.
