Their belief in blood atonement is one of the reasons Utah still uses a firing squad in some executions. They let people choose execution for a blood atonement.
Of course, all CHristians believe in blood atonement, but we think it is Christ's blood that atoned for our sins. Mormons think Christ died so people can work to atone for their own sins. They think it is doing the works of repentance. However, repentance means turning from sin- not making up for it.

Officially, the church has stated they do not practice it. However, there are a number of documented cases where it *was* practiced. By the way, it's not just murder that was considered an "unforgivable offense requiring the shedding of your own blood." Violating your temple ordinance "oaths" was also in that category, which is why until recently the temple rituals included gestures showing ways your life could be taken (slitting of your throat, splitting open your abdomen, etc.) if you violated those oaths. It's been suggested for years that the reason Utah still allows a prisoner to choose execution by firing squad is because it satisfies "blood atonement," while hanging and lethal injection and electrocution do not. I don't know how valid that is, but it seems plausible. Peace. (ex-mormon)

Why do you ask such a weird question? Mormons do not practice blood atonement. You must be setting them up to pull some old quote by Brigham Young out that was antiquated about 150 years ago. Christ was the only one that can atone for our sins.

Elder McConkie wrote that there has not been one instance of blood atonement in this dispensation. There were in some sermons of early church leaders statements about blood atonement in previous dispensations, for instance in the days of Moses. Dishonest persons have attempted to make it appear the Brighma Young and other taught things just the opposite of what they really believed and taught.

The ONLY way the church would ever accept "blood atonment" is when a person has been properly convicted of a serious crime, in a court of law, and been sentenced to death, etc.

sorry, there's no 'blood atonement' ritual in the LDS church. if you'd like to see a fictionalized account of a blood atonement in a movie, go see The Passion.

Does NOT exist in the LDS church. Anyone who would practice such an abomination would be excommunicated as soon as it was found out. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will have none of that in its membership and NEVER has.

That was something that Brigham Young talked about and I don't think it ever happened. We also did away with the Firing Squad years ago.

I would think not. murder being a sin they could not kill any one with out having to feel like killing them selves after.
death is not really a form of "absolution"
If a person feels they did some thing that bad, they need to live & pay each day till they feel the debt is payed.
