I am having surgery tommorow and it's not until 11am. It was also take 2hrs to drive there i am going to get sick in the car on an empty stomach. Can i drink coffee at 4am or something like that

Actually, if I remember, kids aren't supposed to either. This is to empty the stomach as much as possible, because the anesthesia during surgery often induces vomiting in people. UCK! So, no, sorry, coffee is NOT a good idea, either.

call the anesthesiologist and ask if you can have ONE saltine cracker while on your trip. The stopping of all liquids is so that they can monitor your fluids intake properly when you are in pre-op and they hook up an IV bag of fluids to you. Kids can eat after midnight because they have a higher rate of metabolism than adults do and can process foods faster.

Sorry, but if they said nothing, they meant nothing. And if it makes you feel better, my four-year-old had the same rules when she had her tonsils out.
