Please give me credible links for:

1)archeological evidence - ruins

2)evidence of any steeles or ancient parchments or manuscripts from those civilations or mentioning them

3)coinage found with the inscriptions of these places

4)metal weapons found in the Americas dating before Christ

5)DNA evidence that American Indians are descendents of the Jews

I have heard that there is no evidence of these great and mighty civilizations that the book of Mormon says flourished here and that all the DNA evidence concludes that Native Americans descended from Asians, not Jews. Here's your chance to proove that false. Please back up your claims from prestigeous non-Mormon Universities or non-Mormon professionals. Thanks.

Dionysus - Sorry, but saying your mother's grandmother's cousin twice removed heard stories from her Myan relatives that matched the book of Mormon is absolutely no proof of anything. I don't mean to hurt your feelings. But I have to say that.

Dear sweet Brittiany. They are playing word games with you. They have "parallel evidence" but no "direct evidence". Evidence is evidence. You say scientists are discovering vast remains of ancient, intelligent, skilled people who inhabited the western hemisphere. Anyone can make that statement. I asked you for proof.

This is not a matter of faith. If they claim to be large historical places that thrived for thousands of years, there is no way we wouldn't have found much evidence of them and impossible not to have found any if they really existed.

Payback Time - I never asked you to prove EVERYTHING in the book, just some things. We have mountains of historical evidence in all the areas I mentioned above to prove the bible is accurate.

Payback Time - I just noticed your little after thought. No I am Not a troll! I asked a honest question that you can't answer.

Mormon_4 - Well, what IS the evidence?

2007-10-03 11:03:42 · update #5

hibby 76 - Much of what you said was totally false and the rest is hopeful speculation by Mormons. I asked for "Non-Mormon credible references". You gave me Mormon references that prove nothing. The Book of Mormon doesn't say these peoples were "relatively small groups of people". It says they were vast empires of 2 different peoples, the Nephites and the Lamanites, who thrived for thousands of years. It is not possibe that archeologists would not have uncovered large amounts of evidence from these civilizations if they existed.

I have received proof that the Book of Mormon is True. This came after fervent prayer and meditation, and it came through God's spirit. You can receive the same proof, however it does require sincerity, humility, faith, and a willingness to act upon the answer that God gives you.

Do you believe that God answers prayers? If so, then ask him. If not, I'd encourage you to develop a relationship with him.

Here are a few thoughts on the matter:

1. Joseph Smith was either an idiot, brilliant, or a prophet.

If he were brilliant he wouldn't have mentioned horses in the Book of Mormon....everyone "KNEW" that the Spanish brought horses......that is until they found horse skeletons dating to Book of Mormon times in North American tar pits....well after Joseph Smiths Death.

K...so he probably wasn't just brilliant. Lets assume he was an idiot.... How would an idiot have known to put in several examples of ancient poetry in the text.....and yet not point it out to everyone...."Did you notice the Chiasmus..."???

These are brilliant, touching, and are written exactly as you'd expect them to be written....The problem is that the world hadn't discovered this form of ancient poetry yet. (see first link)

We could go on with dozens of other such examples. However, I'll respond to your specific questions:

Archeology: We have hardly begun excavating the LARGEST central american ruin (El Mirador, in the Peten Jungle, Northern Guatemala). What would we know about ancient egypt without the discoveries in Cairo and Luxor??? So we pretend to be so brilliant when it comes to their history, yet there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of un-excavated sites. Besides, very little besides stone and pottery can survive the elements of central America for hundreds of years. due to the climate and moisture. It doesn't help that Cortez burned the Aztec libraries either.

Because we haven't found a "smoking gun", it does not prove that the Book of Mormon isn't authentic. Of course it will be nice when it shows up, however, most people, (probably you included) will find a way to explain it away and say that it isn't what it is.

2. As I mentioned earlier, Cortez burned many of them. It's worth mentioning that initially the Book of Mormon was denounces as false BECAUSE Smith claimed it was written on metal plates and scholars "knew" that people hadn't kept records on plates....until they found written records on metal plates. Most skeptics don't bother mentioning things like that. Again...was he brilliant or an idiot. He WOULDN'T have said that had he been consistent with 1930's knowledge. (see second link).

3. The book of Mormon doesn't mention coins. It mentions a measurement system of standardized weights (very similar to the ones used by Guatemalan Indians today), but no coins. That's your assumption.

4. Metal doesn't withstand the aforementioned elements very well. That said, the 3rd link does address this.

5. DNA evidence: It seems that the Book of Mormon was written about a relativly small group of people that lived in a relativly small geographic area. The Book of Mormon talks about 4 groups of people that came from the Old world. It does not say that these are the ONLY groups. Some believe that the Phonecians traded with the ancient inhabitants of America. That the Vikings also came, and that there were still others that came from Siberia. There may have been many others. What was Lehi's and Ishmael's DNA like? We'd have to have a pretty good idea of what it was and what it wasn't. DNA evidence may show a strong link sometime, but the fact that we haven't identified one yet, in no way disproves the Book of Mormon.

Jeff Lindsay is a Mormon, however "proof" can come from any source, and he sites many external references. (it just so happened to be an easy site to search for the links you asked for).

I don't have room for this, but linguistically, there are some fascinating similarities between the phrases that are used in the book of Mormon and near identical phrases that are used in some of the Guatemalan languages such as Qui che.

Now a question for you: What kind of evidence would have to be discovered for you to convert whole-heartedly to Mormonism, adhere to the rules of Mormonism, pay 10% of your income to the church, etc?

Secondly (assuming you're religious), can you prove that God exists and that the Bible is God's word using equally strong "proof"?

Again, truth is found through God and not in dirt. Ask God if it's true....he knows, and he'll tell you.

"I have heard that there is no evidence of these great and mighty civilizations that the book of Mormon says flourished here and that all the DNA evidence concludes that Native Americans descended from Asians, not Jews. Here's your chance to proove that false."

Guess what, it is not our responsibility to prove "man's" desires false or true. I have my evidence. My testimony. That is stronger than any coinage, DNA, ruins or anything you could show me. I have personally received a witness from the Holy Ghost that the gospel is true. I know it is, I don't just believe it is. I know it. Would I expect you to rely on my testimony? No, absolutely not. I would encourage you to ask the only person who cannot lie to you, what is true and what is not: your Heavenly Father. God has promised us, that through the power of the Holy Ghost, He will reveal all truth unto us. And yes, it can feel as though a "buring in the bosom"...the holy Ghost tells us in our minds and in our hearts, he reveals truth.
First you have to have the faith, then the Lord will reveal his secrets unto you. You will gain knowledge and learn things you never knew were even a possibility.
What is funny to me, is that I feel as though people like you are looking for "signs"... you are looking for something with a big stamp that says "BOOK OF MORMON EVIDENCE"... even Christ performed miracles before others and they still did not believe He was the Son of God. I don't think even if there was "acceptable" evidence for people like you, you would still not accept it because your heart is not open to being submissive to the gospel. Maybe I am wrong, but that is how I feel.

Hello,

None; they mention even horses and chariots but horses, no bigger than large dogs disappeared from North America for 20,000 years (ice age et al) and never reappeared until the arrival of the Spanish circa AD 1500.

The Mormons I have met are great people and nice to talk with but I cannot buy their history and archeology based on these observations.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Your asking a group that relies entirely on feeling (burning in the bosom) to give proof

They only proof out there is proving them false.

Joseph Smith had prophecies he claimed came from god go wrong.

He had multiple wives against the Book of Mormon

too many things for on here but they will just deny and say you haven't prayed hard enough. They all use the same lines and proves they are coached and will not think for themselves.

Conversely, you have no direct evidence that these things, people, places, etc., did NOT take place.

There is just enough evidence right now for me to believe that it did happen.

actually there is a lot of evidence to prove what you have asked but I have a personal story.

my wife is 1/4 Black, 1/8 Mayan, 1/8 Spanish and 1/2 English

My wife's mother is 1/2 Black, 1/4 Spanish 1/4 Mayan -- she grew up around her Mayan relatives then moved to the states as an adult. When she started the LDS missionary lessons she argued with them about every thing, but then she read the Book of Mormon and the stories she read matched the Mayan stories she heard as a child through the Mayan oral history tradition.

She was baptized.

the Mormons can make all the claims they want.....

the native peoples that were living in the area during that time frame have "history " also...their records would mention something ....there is no mention of any of this because it never occurred....

there is no DNA evidence....

the only ruins and coinage and metal found were the remnants of old viking villages.....

The old Indian stories mention big foot, but never mention the Mormons.....I think that is significant!!
