Meijer's is something like the 4th largest discount retailer in the US, and they only exist in 5 states - Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Mr. Meijer had a barbershop in Grand Rapids, and built a building with retail space as well, figuring that the retailer would end up paying off his mortgage. He ended up running a discount grocery operation there, then buying a dairy farm, and within a few years, he had a combination supermarket/discount store called "Thrifty Acres". That was back in the 1950s. They've really expanded since.
They are very good at what they do. They seem to have a good feel for what brands consumers want, they price aggressively low, and they go out of their way to make consumers happy. One of the things I miss most about the midwest, living here in Pennsylvania, is Meijer's.

Is meijer a store?
I went on their website and they don't sell food there.
(I like in NY, and a small bag of lettuce is $2.50 on sale)

Yuk! Buy a head of lettuce and cut it youself. I don't buy any bagged salads since I found a dog hair in a bag.
