I personally think promise rings are pointless to begin with.

My promise ring looked like a small wedding ring, and some people knew what it was and some people didn't (some guy actually thought I was married and when I took off my ring for cleaning, he thought me and my "hubby" were having trouble at home haha).
If you and your bf thinks its beautiful, then get it. People are going to be confused about it no matter what, since unfortunately, most people have no idea what a promise ring is.
I'd get it :) Good Luck :)

Well if it's that ring that you love then that's what matters. I have one with a small diamond in the center, some people ask me if it's an engagement ring, but not too many. It's an amazing feeling to have a promise ring, especially if you have a while before you get the real one! Good Luck and enjoy it =]

If you really like the ring, then that is all that matters. Unless, of course, you feel uncomfortable wearing it because it looks or is a wedding band. Maybe you don't want other people to think that your married??? Have you talked to him about it ?? You should be able to tell him that the ring is beautiful but, it looks like a wedding band and watch his reaction. Maybe he wants the ring to be more of an engagement ring ???? I hope that this helps.

The ring is to symbolize your promise to him, to always be faithful. Which is a lot like wedding vows. If you are promising yourself to him or getting married, the ring serves the same purpose.... So go ahead!
If I saw that ring on your finger, I would probably think you were married... But is that a problem? you want to promise yourself to him don't you? So telling the world you are taken/promised/married is not a bad thing. If they want to assume you are married, fine... If they ask you can tell them the truth...
Don't worry about what others will think of it. This is a special thing between the two of you.... Who cares if someone will take your ring the "wrong" way. Enjoy it! Wear it!
Good luck!
***UPDATE***
My friend had the best promise ring! Feel free to take this design idea....
It was silver, and engraved on the top with "Promised". There were two tiny diamonds on each side of "promised" like this [ * Promised * ] Thus the meaning of this ring was never mistaken for a wedding ring.
The inside had her "now husband" 's name engraved in it with the date of their promise. She now wears it on her right hand or on a necklace, as her left-hand-ring-finger is occupied with her wedding rings. She wants to give it to her little girl one day.....
DON'T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO SAY IT IS STUPID!
There is no problem in taking things slow! I like the idea of being promised, then engaged, then married. There is no reason to rush things....
For me, the engagement time was only to give us time to plan the wedding! For me, the year long engagment hasn't been as enjoyable as I would have hoped, and only because it is clouded with wedding plans and bridzilla moments.
We dated for years, then he gave me a "promise ring" with the understanding that we wanted to get engaged, but the timing wasn't right. Then, after we graduated and got stable jobs, he asked me to marry him. That was exactly a year ago yesterday! The wedding is in one month! I'm glad we took it slow, plus the promise ring helpped me understand his true intentions with actions - not just words!
Good luck, hun!

I think some people might automatically assume it was a wedding ring, but does that really matter? It is a sign of a commitment, and if anyone asks, you just tell them it is a promise ring. Best wishes!

A promise ring usually will look like a wedding ring. Except the only difference is you wouldn't wear it on your wedding finger..so most people wouldn't assume you were married.

Yes, but if you and your boyfriend like it and want to get it, then by all means get it!
Who cares if it looks like a wedding ring. The whole idea is that it is a symbol of a promise, anyway.

You described an eternity band. That's not a promise ring. A promise ring may have a tiny diamond in it - it's meant for highschoolers going steady. It's not an engagement ring.
