and I have done a lot for her. I have found that she is a very messed up individual. She has stolen from me, lied to me, has committed fraud with her SS benefits to the point that she no longer gets them. Now, she wants to move into my home and have me support her. She doctor shops and abuses pain killers. She is threatening to call the Elderly Abuse Hotline. Is there someway to legally stop this and to be able to protect myself and my family?

You need to write this information all down and tell her point blank to stay the hell out of your life. If she continues to come around I would take the info to the police and get a restraining order. Every time she came around she would get arrested...I think she would eventually get the point. You must do everything in your power to keep this woman away from you. It may be painful cause she is your mom, but she is trying to con/take advantage of you!

What ever you to don't let her move in with you. Depending on what state you live in, you can file for a restraining order very easily. I would suggest that you go to your local court house and ask for the paperwork.

I have a sister who is also abusing pain killers and has made everyone's life miserable. We got a "Civil injunction" that prohibits her from contacting us for 3 year. If she violates it she will end up in jail.

I know this seems harsh, but sometime you have a responsibility to protect yourself from those that should love you, so you have to be harsh. Unless that person wants to change, it will only get worst if you enable her abusive actions.

She can't just move into your house without your control and permission. Just tell her its impossible for her to live with you. Your family should be your priority, not some incubator of a so called mother. She's nothing but a user and a selfish person. You call the senior cititzens hotline or just call the police if she tries force her way into your home. Have her removed. You owe her nothing. Good Luck

I am a foster parent and a little girl that we had just went back into that kind of enviroment, we have done everything that we can to prevent that but without success. We would have adopted this little girl and gave her the best life possible but her parents wanted her back because she is extra money on their cheque. You should just ignore her like she did you when you were growing up and enjoy the family that did take care of you. This mother is never going to change and she will always be trouble.

Call the Elder Abuse center yourself and alert them to her intentions. Tell her you want nothing more to do with her and get an EPO if need be. I am sorry she turned out to be such a waste. At least you are here and you are a contributing member of society. Be proud of who you are now and let her go down her own path. You can't save her.

Good luck! :)

What kind of Elderly Abuse is she trying to charge you with. Unless you have signed a paper saying you will take care of her, you do not have to. Even if you have signed a paper saying you would care for her does not mean you have to let her move in to your house. She is just trying to scare you into taking care of her. She did not take care of you as a child so you owe her nothing

yes you are not legally required to care for her becasue you are an adult, do not be scared, this is not a person you wnat in your life especially right now I would tell her to take a hike and then make sure you talk to someone to cover your butt she might try to sue you or something because people seem to do that alot, but really you are not legally required to let her walk all over you and your good heart

Have you considered posting this in Adoption as well, you may get some answers that are helpful and maybe a few people who can understand where you are coming from as well.
