The importance of prayer is the intimate dialog with God and our heart. We don't need to speak aloud, nor at all. when we bow our head, or close our eyes or close the door in the room, we are closing out the rest of the world so that we can dedicate our total focus to the Lord for that time.
The importance of the specific prayer, is the transferring of thoughts and our needs with the Lord, OR the thankfulness in our hearts that we wish to honor Him with in prayer.
God wants us to be depend ant upon Him. It pleases Him to see us reach out to Him when we are down, but even a greater joy for Him when we reach up to Him in thanks. This shows our grateful heart is acknowledging His grace and we wish to be obedient and dependent upon His presence.

Prayer is a way to connect with God. I have had lots and lots and lots and lots and lots (I could go on) of prayers answered.
It is just talking. You talk to your husband or wife who loves you. You talk to your God who loves you.
I'm Christian and the Bible says that the prayers of a righteous man makes tremendous power available. But it also says that that when you pray that you have to believe that you receive it. Most people pray out of fear or at most hope. But faith that God loves them enough to act on their behalf is next to none.
As for me - I pray when I need things done that I know I can't do on my own. And I pray when I just want to say "Hi Daddy" to a God that loves me.

To make the person praying feel better. It makes them feel like they have helped when they can't help or they really don't want too. It's gives a psychological feeling that they truly helped.

It will definitely cure anything you’ve got. Don’t bother bathing, seeking medical care, working or studying. Just pray.
