Farting is a part of us such as yawning or sneezing. It was scientifically proven that the average person tends to fart 15-20 times a day.....if everyone does it...then why try to hide it? Or be so embarrassed by it? Why can't people just say excuse me and go outside or go to the bathroom to fart? Or even just do it there as long as it is in a decently ventillated area? Why try to hide something that every body does and it is a naturally bodily function?

OK, although farting, breaking wind, is indeed a "natural" thing, as human beings we are taught manners and etiquette. Would you want someone breaking wind at the dinner table, during a big holiday dinner? In an airplane in close quarters? In a small car filled to capacity? In an elevator? Think about it. Most of the time, farts are accompanied by putrefied, waste smells from within your body. In other words, they stink! People should excuse themselves if they're unable to hold it and go to the nearest bathroom or even outside. It's just good manners and etiquette.

I understand what you are saying, but the odor can be so offensive. That is kind of like taking a dump in the middle of the room, except the smell would linger longer. It's a natural thing and everyone expels waste, but somethings are better left private.

I don't think they are scared to do it, they are just being polite to not do it around other people. There is a difference between manners, and being impolite.
