Holy cats! I've never seen so many bad answers! Now why should you believe me and not them? You don't have to, but consider the source ...... assuming any is given for the answers. Come to your own conclusions based on reading any sources provided.

DRY FOOD DOESN'T CLEAN THE TEETH.

What dry food does:
1. Leaves cats dehydrated.
2. May lead to diabetes
3. May lead to kidney problems
4. Often leads to urinary problems, especially in males

What canned food does:
1. Keeps cats properly hydrated.
2. If good quality, may help prevent diabetes, kidney problems and other dread diseases
3. Prevents urinary issues
4. Keeps the coat and skin healthy

All dry and all canned foods are not created equally. Even crappy canned food is better than dry, however, in most cases.

Both. Kittens NEED wet (canned) food too. Dry food is not enough. Wet food is more nutritious and provides the added water that kittens need to keep from gettin dehydrated. A 10 week old kitten should be getting wet food about 3 times a day. Read about it:

Dry food should be left out for free feeding all day long so the kitten can "graze" in between meals. Dry food does not prevent tartar and clean a cat's teeth. It contains too much starch and cereal products to be a complete healthy diet. Check it out at this link:

If you want your kitten to be healthy and grow up with a strong body include wet food in his diet and pick a high quality dry food too.

Why Do Vets Recommend Dry Cat Food?
Because vets know very little about nutrition and what your cat should be eating. They don't learn much about nutrition in school. What they do learn comes from the cat food companies.

Wet food does not give kittens diarrhea. Worms, milk, and many other things do.

Hope this helps.

I almost always feed Iams dry food for my cat. Once in a while, like once or twice a month I'll give him a can of the fancy stuff with shrimp and stuff in it if he's been really good. I do give him treats almost everyday though. If you really want to feed wet, I would use Nutro, Wellness or Iams. They're some if the best in my opinion.

I recommend wet food. It's the closest to meat, and cat's are not Herbivores!! I also don't believe the hype that dry food is "good for the teeth" either. Research shows that usually the cat doesn't even chew the dry food completely - they swallow it whole!

go to this website, it has a great article they may help you make a decision:

Would depend on what you want the cats breath smell like. My family used to breed them and we mixed the two slowly adding more dry then wet or we would wet down dry food. We always tried to get them to dry food since most people used dry food.

Dry. Wet food doesn't usually have all the stuff they need and that goes for all cats. If you're worried that its too hard for your kitten you can put a little water in the dish before you put the food in it and then the food will soak up the water and make it softer. Just a little but of water will work...

I recommend only dry food for kittens and full grown cats. It is plenty nutritious and is not overloaded with protein. Although a lot of protein is good when they are kittens, it can cause older cats to get what is called "hot spots" on their skin. It becomes irritated, scaley and the hair falls out.

When feeding with dry food you can leave the food down all the time, letting them eat slowly during the day or night. It helps keep their gums healthy and cuts down on tooth tarter. It will also help keep their bowels regular.

Rune Amok has it correct...many cats don't even chew their dry food, but merely swallow it. And if they DO chew it they get carbohydrates all over their teeth which causes dental issues.

Everything Rune said is correct. It's important to include wet food as part of a cat's daily diet.

If you do include dry food, make sure it's a brand that is mostly meat, such as EVO.

I would never feed a cat any age wet food simply because of the smell. You have to wash those bowls ever day or they reek. A cat that’s always fed dry will never know the difference.
