what is the best way of getting contacts to get work ? for construction work , kitchen & bath& tiling work ,please any info will help thanks sean.

Sean, the honest truth is that word-of-mouth is the best and least expensive marketing and advertising any company can do. If you haven't yet done your first contract, approach people you know (go as far as friends of relatives, coworkers of relatives if need be...) and try to secure your first contract -- offer an incredible price in exchange for a letter of recommendation as long as the job goes well. Don't forget to take before and after pictures even of work you've done in your own home.

This is a bit strange, but I swear it works... If you're really stuck with no projects, go hang out at your local large hardware store for a couple of hours going between the flooring department and kitchen and washroom displays. Look for people who look really overwhelmed or downright confused, offer some friendly advice, then hand them your business card and tell them that you would be happy to provide them with a free consultation/price quotation for their project.

Also, if you haven't already, introduce yourself to some of the suppliers you will be using when you do have projects going on, such as the paint store, cabinetmakers, even interior designers and decorators. If you make a good first impression it is very possible that they will send someone your way. Good luck!

My brother became a plumber a few months back - to advertise his service he did a couple of things:-

1-Advertise in the local paper - the more local the better.

2-leaflet drop - in a 'nice' area close to where we live he delivered leaflets for a few hours and picked up a couple of weeks work.

The previous post was right, once word gets out that your work is good and your price is fair then work will start to find you.
