"person who is fundamentally correct in his religious beliefs."

Exactly what MichaelP and Kait said. There's not a lot to add. They mean it for an insult but just take it as a compliment. It just means that you probably are well grounded in your faith and are not moved by every religious trend and doctrine floating around, and that you believe the Bible to be God's Holy Word and you live by it, as His authoritative truth. If you do this, liberals and liberal "Christians" included, will label you as a Fundie. I was told yesterday,," Oh my G--, You are a big freakin' Jesus freak!" Do you think that hurt my feelings? Not at all. I did remove the answer though because the guy that did it went into a question that I asked about floor tile, to insult me because he didn't like an answer that i gave to one of his questions, and I didn't care for that. Being called a fundie is the same thing. It just means that we are "freakin' Jesus freaks." What can I say,? I gotta own it ! God bless!!

The word Christian, coined at Antioch was also meant to be an insult. The locals pointed at them and said, oh look there goes a little christ. But this derogatory term speaks volumes of the early Christians' faith. In the same way, I am glad when someone calls me a Fundie. I take it as a compliment. Feel free to call me Jack, the Fundie.

Blessings.

"Fundy" is short for "fundamentalist" which has several senses as applied to Christians. Its first is a specific usage, those who hold to what they take to be a literal interpretation of the Bible. They typically would not consider questions like modern scholarship and are typically (in the US) King James Only. The second is the widespread usage among people who don't know enough to differentiate, which is what you mention: calling anybody who actually believes in the Christianity of the Bible a "fundamentalist" because it's easier to call somebody names than think or talk to them. This is the typical usage by liberals.

Of course, in some other religions like Islam, it has a different sense, but most liberals enjoy denying that there is any difference. It seems the difference between holding sincere religious beliefs and wanting to kill other people for not holding them should be one even a liberal can understand, but maybe I'm wrong.

And, "fundy" can be just as readily applied to atheists. Look at "Jedi Master"s response to understand. Anybody who can't understand the difference between the doctrine of the Trinity and polytheism shows he doesn't have the foggiest idea of the religion he thinks he's rejecting.

I believe in every word in the Bible. I do not add to it or take away from it. I believe God is the creator of all and God is in Control. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again on the third day and Glory to God He Lives within my heart. So if i am a fundies because I believe every word of the Bible and try my best to follow Gods word then let it be.. I don't mind and it is not one bit demeaning to me.

There is nothing wrong with being a fundamentalist per se but when fundamentalism turns into bigotry... then fundamentalism is up to no good in the world.

Bigotry: stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own. Random House College Dictionary.

Psalm 119:165 says that nothing shall offend the true child of God. "Great peace have they who love Thy law. Nothing shall offend them."

When someone who calls himself a Christian is easily offended for whatever may be the reason, what does that say about him or her? It is my personal belief that those who have the truth are the ones who can afford the most to be tolerant with others who differ with them. Being defensive is a sure sign that that we are not intellectually and spiritually settled into the truth. Jesus was always in trouble but never troubled! When the truth is in our heart, we have serenity and composure. It implants in the soul a joy that nothing earthly can destroy, joy in the Holy Spirit, health-giving, life-giving joy!

Its a way to be demeaning to Christians who believe the bible to be the inerrant word of God. Its irritating too!

What I dont get is fundamentalism is spread throughout other religions too, why not call Muslims fundies or orthodox jews fundies, etc.

Good Evening, Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are called 'FUNDIES' with the same scorn and ridicule that the British called us Yankee Doodle. It is time to weigh in with response from Chief Fundie (me) and I have decided to make a Dandy.
Having a skull of Steel-reinforced concrete (imagine bridge pillar along an interstate)
I think most of you know the tune,
Jedi Master and a few others can just read,
I shall sing my thoughts:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ The Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

On Christ The Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinding sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ The Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

THANK GOD I'M A FUNDIE!!!!!!

This one irritates me, all the labeling, but ppl will do whatever it takes to silence those who love God and want to talk about it. Fundy is a nickname for fundamentalist, and the non believers use it to demean us. WHen you ask what they mean, they tell you it means someone who so believes in the every word of the Bible, it is not questioned, and they believe it strongly and obey it. Which irritates them.
PPl are so quick to label, and labels rarely ever fit.
I have been called a fundy, and I have been caled a fanatic, and even a crazy evangelistic christian. all are labels. If those terms mean we believe in the full word of God and believing it without question, then jsut call me a true christian, as that is what we are supposed to do. But, we must understand our beliefs to obey them, and to obey them because we love God. IT is to make us more like Jesus and more effective as we tell the world about Him. Often, it doesn work that way, but when a person lives in open rebellion to God, nothing we say or do makes a difference, as its all just dismissed as trash. God says we must not lay our pearl before swines, meaning dont give the gospel to someone who will only spit on it, that doesnt want it. While we waste time on them, we could have been spending time with someone that was seeking and just didnt know where to begin. Do dont let the labels ppl use bother you. As long as God calls us HIS, we have more than enough.
Dont accept the bait of offense, cuz if they can make us mad, we will sometimes fight back in defense and then they get us into sin too with our rage. Jsut pity them, pray for them, love them, and know who you are in Christ, and those names will roll off you like water on a raincoat
They are just words, its the words of God we live by, and they can call us whatever they please, or hate us. WE still love them and pray for them, just as God commanded us to do. I count it all as Joy....
God bless you for your sincerity and lvoe for ppl. IT always shines thru.

anti-christians (many that claim to be 100% totally tolerant of everyone and every belief).
Use the term to try to demean christians that appose abortion, homosexual marriages, euthanasia, etc.

Christians that believe the bible is 100% God's word and accurate. That want the bible and prayer returned to schools.

The Politically Correct crowd has decided that anyone that is a "fundie" needs to "shut-up" about their views and not attempt to stop the removing of "anything" christian (separation of church and state) from the US public life.
