Why didn't the Christians just send homeless people out to stand on bus stops with Chick tracts? Wouldn't that have been more effective than killing, raping, and pillaging non-believers?

Hey Death from Above- I stole the name Violator from the Spawn Comic and added it to my name because for a while some christtards were reporting me left and right- so I started intentionally making comments that would get me violation notices... funny- the ones I answered like that didn't get reported, but a lot of decent answers did...

CJ- for the last time- CATHOLICS ARE CHRISTIANS

Just because YOUR Church doesn't recognise this doesn't mean that they aren't- by definition- Christians.

Really- shut up...

History has unjustly judged these people?! The Crusades were a political stunt by the Pope! Wow, man. Read some history, will you? The King of Byzantium, also known as the Emperor of the Eastern Empire, beseeched the Pope for a small, covert force with which to reclaim Jerusalem. The Pope sent millions of people under the cause of a free ride to Heaven if they went. They were also told the more infadels they killed, the faster they'll get to heaven.

Yeah, maybe those people were judged too harshly, you could argue for living conditions and all that, but man, don't think that the Crusades were anything but a publicity stunt by the Pope for a claim to the Eastern Empire.

Now, as for if they lay down arms, so will we? My bunghole. Saddam laid down arms in 1992 and we proceeded to bomb the hell out of Iraqi Kurdistan for over a decade and laid sanctions that killed hundreds of thousands of men, women and children in Iraq as a whole at the same time.

As for your question, good sir, I would have to say that it would be because they hadn't thought of it. The homeless were used as lion bait at the time and really, killing, raping and pillaging was considered to be a believer's job (Just ask the Pope at the time) Can't be having that go to the homeless people, now can we?

Depends on what your goal is. Killing reduces the number of infidels. Raping dilutes their bloodline, and some people enjoy that kind of thing. Pillaging is an easy way to make money--crusading can get to be expensive! I mean, you're assuming, what, that they wanted to actually convert people? Only so that the pope could tithe them and increase his power and influence. Too bad for Catholicism that it only worked during the first crusade. The others kinda flopped.

I hope the bus stop thing was an attempt at humor--you do realize that the crusades started nearly a thousand years ago, right? No internal combustion engines back then.

History has been unjustifiably harsh to those who reclaimed their lands from Islam. Hatred is a convenient tool in maintaining that harsh attitude and the wrong-headedness concerning history.
If Islamic radicals were to drop their weapons and stop using them, so would we. If we were to drop our weapons and stop using them, that radical ideology would require continued hostility and conquest. You might learn something from history if you would go back and read with current lessons in mind.
The world is not in a new conflict. It is a continuation.

It is obvious that many do not understand the nature of the current conflict, for if they had that understanding they would not be so quick to point out the "guilt" of those who were being conquored prior to the Crusades. Do not so quickly discount the motives of the Ottoman empire. And do not point to their generous nature or good will by allowing Jews to remain in Jerusalem. The premature extermination of Jews would have brought swifter retribution from those who inhabited the lands they had not yet made their own. And here lies the heart of the matter, for the continued expansion of an ideology was the goal....no intention to stop. Pointing a finger at those who fought in the crusades as ones who merely wished to curry favor with a Pope may have some measure of validity, but for the most part those who set out were wealthy men who sold all they had in order to carry out the campaigns. They had reasons and motivations as well intentioned, if not better, as those who over-ran the near entirety of Europe. The idea that it is alright for an ideology to conquor so many with the brutality of war and expect no retribution is a disgusting one. Would it have been tolerable to allow advancing Nazi armies to invade and occupy all of Europe? During the majority of the time the crusades were being waged the Popes tried to discourage the effort, though this is conveniently ignored by those who wish to condemn. It would behoove many to look again at history and this time view it from a perspective other than one that wants to bash a particular side.
Now in order for you to set my comments in proper perspective I must inform you that I am not and never have been a Catholic.

The crusades weren't only about converting people, they were about conquering people and opening up trade routes.

Handing out Chick tracts generally doesn't do that.

The murderers in the crusades were not Christians. They were catholics, part of the genocidal Vatican cult.
