If you need or want distilled water, it is easiest to buy a distiller or to go and purchase distilled water...it is usually only about $0.99 - $2.99 a gallon. You can do it yourself...but it is really hard without the proper equipment. You can boil water on the stove and then hang a bowl overtop of the boiling water and angle it to one side. This will cause the steam to collect into the bowl and run off to the side. Then you need to collect the water that runs off of that. It is usually faster if you can cool the steam collector some how with ice or cold rags. You can even use a lid on a pot to collect the steam....for all the work that has to be done to even get a cup of distilled water this way...it is easier to just purchase it!

Distilled water is made by boiling water and taking the steam that comes from that and cooling it back down to water. You need something to boil the water in (boiler) a way to keep the steam from escaping, and a way to cool the steam back to water (condenser).
The boiler is piped to the condenser. Water boiling to steam in the boiler pushes the steam through the pipes to the condenser. There's water or some other coolant (sometimes air) on the outside of the condenser which then works to cool the steam back down to water. You can use a bucket of water for your condenser...just poke a hole in the bottom and run your pipe into the top of the bucket and out of the hole in the bottom. Remember to seal around the hole so your cooling water doesn't leak out of the bucket.
Pretty simple, but if you want to, you can always make it much more complicated.

Just like the name says... you need a STILL to distill water... it's done just like liquor but there is no alcohol involved.
