I have known a lot of hopeless people. They seem to like this. It's hard to help anyone that doesn't want to help themselves. Good luck tho. #

That's a tough one. In the flesh we are hopeless, but what you are dealing with here is someone who is in depression. Did you know that less than 10% of all depression is actually caused by a chemical imbalance? Yet they still try to treat it with drugs.
A person who in depressed has underlaying reasons. He will not know the reasons himself, but there is a pain inside that he needs to medicate. He is not going to change until you get rid of that pain.
Here are some organizations that train people in inner healing, and will lead those in need to where they can find people who are skilled:

It takes a long time, but I truly believe the only way to help these people is by offering them true, unconditional friendship and love. Only then will they be able to rely on you, and then you will be able to encourage them to lift themselves into hope.
I also believe in sharing inspirational personal stories. People will only truly open up to you if you open up to them.
I was in a very dark place once, and my best friend's constant presence if only to make sure I ate and showered is what pulled me through.
ps
faith is a personal thing, but I believe that prayer can be very helpful.

Perhaps take a step back and be certain that you're not simply presuming they need help. I would first ask are they asking for your help. To presume that you have the ability to inspire someone or judge whether they are 'hopeless' is more than a bit arrogant.

wow. um. well, i like helping emos. generally, it helps to just talk to them and listen to their problems. it usually makes them feel better, by a certain degree at least. although you might feel a little down yourself after a while. theres only so much sadness a person can take.
so anyway, i like taking a days break between doing things like that. but yeah. i dont know what kind of hopelessness youre talking about.

Do cool magic tricks like walk on water and turn water to wine...maybe raise a dead person or heal a blind person, just make sure there are no amputees that believe in you and want you to perform a miricle on them...Then give a sermon about....If you have faith and talk to Jesus you can perform all his miricles...Just ask the pentecostals that tongue speak...

Love and listen to them, pray openly with and for them.In all honestly bear their burden, which is something the church has forgotten.Be genuinely the heart of Jesus towards them. This is a cold indifferent world we are in,there are many who have lost hope, because of horrible circumstances they are faced to deal with.It is easier to become jaded and bitter in this life.Be blessed

Like the good book says - give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, teach him the internet he will leave you alone forever.
