Worms are put in Mezcal, they are called maguey worms. Mezcal is a Mexican distilled spirit made from maguey plants and refers to all agave-based distilled liquors that are not tequila. Its fabrication and consumption are popularly associated with the Mexican State of Oaxaca, however, commercial and private production of mezcal is known over a wide area of central-south Mexico outside of tequila producing areas (Jalisco and Guanajuato states). The mezcal of Sonora is called bacanora in reference to the municipality where it is made; the mezcal of Chihuahua is called sotol in reference to the plant that is used there.

There are many different species of maguey plant, and each produces a different taste of mezcal. Tequila is a mezcal made from the blue agave plant in the town of Tequila and the surrounding region of Jalisco.

The worms have nothing to do with peyote.

they do no longer. Tequila is a distilled liquor created from blue agave Mezcal is a distilled liquor created from maguey agave As for the malicious software, it rather is rather an agave moth larvae. The larvae feed on the agave vegetation and are often harvested as food. it rather is in no way been a prepare to place the larvae into mezcal, it rather is a advertising gimmick that began around WW2 to sell decrease priced mezcal to human beings. in basic terms placed, some advertising genius at a mescal plant figured he would desire to sell extra crap booze around the border if he caught a "malicious software" on the backside. guess he became ideal.

Never worms in tequila. It's mezcal you're talking about.

The urban legend is that the worm eats peyote, so if you eat the worm, you get high on the drug that peyote contains. It's a myth, apparently, possibly started to boost sales of tequila.
