hi, when i was 15-16 i went kinda crazy, and had to go to 2 different mental hospitals. Well I snapped out of it and now i can't do anything with my life, as it will come up on any decent background check. I need some advice as to what to do. I can't buy a gun (in NJ anyways) and I know I won't be accepted as a cop. and I am having a hell of a time joining the National Guard. Can someone please give me some advice?

First off, find out how long the gun prohibition lasts. Then, find out the requirements in other states. I suspect that given you were a minor, this will not haunt you the rest of your life. I gotta say, however, if it's only been a few years, it probably really is too soon to tell if you are permanently stable. The more time that passes, the better the odds, so don't be discouraged too quickly. FWIW, I'm bipolar. The comment on the reasonableness of some time passing is not said out of ignorance or prejudice.

I, too, have been in two different mental hospitals (although I prefer to call them 'psychiatric' hospitals, so I know whence you come. Please let me and the rest of the group know why you seem to have checked out nothing but law enforcement opportunities. If you are able to work, there are many other possibilities.

Now, I know that checking out the possibilities can be overwheming, but it might be worth it. If you really want to concentrate on law enforcement, check out other areas in the field.

UH-OH, just thinking about how I wanted to phrase that last sentence has made me feel as if another seizure were imminent. If I can remember (that's a BIG 'if'. My memory is non-existent.) I'll go back online and try to offer some advice which I feel could be helpful.

Please, wish me luck as far as not having a full-blown seizure right now!

I think the best thing you can do is try to find a career that doesn't require the use of a gun. If you are so interested in law, then there are plenty of option that don't require the use of a gun. Become a paralegal, a lawyer, a forensic investigator, etc. If you want to simply help people, then there are tons of ways to do that without using a gun --- so rethink things.

patience ! think of it as a blessing ,, perhaps god saw your future and saw you being shot by some stupid crook so rather then letting them snuff you ,he had you loose it for a while , so there will be some side affects you'll have to contend with ,, BUT your alive ,,, you wouldn't have been if fate had have got it's way ,, thank God for the little glitches in our life they keep us alive ,, and time has the answer for you on what to do with your future ,,, Be patient , the answer will come to you , and you'll be able to say " It couldn't couldn't have gone better If I'de have pland it this way ,,, " Just between you and me you'll be right ,, when Gods behind it , it works out good ,,, patience.....
