I don't know if you can buy it in (I am assuming) the UK, but Benjamin Moore makes a glitter paint that would work

It would be difficult to mix it evenly except in small amounts. Also, the paint will cover most, if not all, of the glitter, so it will probably just look like lumpy paint. You'd be best to paint the wall and add a glitter glaze over the top. Even then you might find it a bit patchy.
A word of warning though - unless the glitter is very, very fine it will be difficult to paint over in the future when you want to change it again. You'll have to do a lot of sanding to remove the pieces of glitter from the wall, or you'll have a strangely textured wall for ever!

mixing glitter into the paint would turn out looking bitty because the paint would have covered the glitter. What might work is painting the wall & while it is wet spray the glitter on. something like a squeazy bottle that would puff the glitter out or put some in your hand & gently blow it on to the wall might take a little time but you could even make glitter patterns. I've never painted a wall with glitter but I decorated my daughters bedroom furniture with glitter. What I did in that case was I painted the little wardrobe & dressing table & left it to dry completely. I then had stencils which I held in place , applied a clear glue, one thats non toxic from craft shops, & sprayed glitter into the stencil shapes & she had her own custom made furniture that was the envy of her friends. I used different colours in glitter
good luck with the decorating

Yes emulsion will cover silk paint as silk paint is an emulsion. But first I would cover the walls with a base of white Matt emulsion, this will give a better base for your light coloured emulsion paint. As this is a children's bedroom I would suggest that you get a vinyl silk emulsion (silk emulsion is wipe-able with a damp cloth) as the paint to go over the walls where you have painted them white. I do hope that this is of help to you. If you use undercoat as someone has suggested it will take a while to dry and will make the room smell for a day at least as undercoat is an oil based paint, and this is totally unnecessary.

it wouldn't work as well as I think you are hoping, the pigments in the emulsion would obscure the glitter for the most part (as the glitter would have to be in the surface of the paint layer to be seen) and you would probably get an uneven effect as you would not be able to tell how evenly dispersed it was
Better would be to add the glitter to a varnish and paint that over a base coat of colour

Paint the area first with the emulsion, then sprinkle the glitter in frony of a fan while the paint is still wet. This should give you the best results.
You'll need to be quite close to the wall with the fan and move around to cover large areas.

Paint the wall with your emulsion and then mix the glitter with a clear matt/satin/gloss (to your preference) water-based varnish and paint over.
