First let me state that I am a straight Christian mother who is looking for change in the Christian community. I have many gay/lesbian friends who I love with all of my heart. It brings me to tears every time I see one of my Christian brothers or sisters using our Lord to spread their own ignorance. I am sickened by Christians who carry signs that say things like God hates fags, and Fags will burn in hell. Who are we to say? Who are we to even judge? What makes me laugh is that even after all we know about the way the human body works and how we develop, people still believe there is a choice in sexuality. The Bible is a wonderful book but we Christians so often forget it was written in a time where we knew little to nothing about our bodies or why certain things happen, back then people thought it was a choice to be gay rather than the way a person is born. We now know one can not choose their sexuality any more than one can choose their skin color, but we as Christians still

minister to them as if we can change them. All we should be concerned with doing is showing them who God is how to know and love His Son and how to walk toward the two, not judge or even try to change. What do you think?

For all of those who want to quote the Bible, lets use words to fight words:
John 3:16 For God so loved the WORLD He gave His only begotten Son
IT DOES NOT SAY
For God so loved the heterosexual world!

Ahh ignorance runs deep with many in this crowd. First of all the bible was not written by GOD it was written by men who were godly. Second Jesus did not jot down a single word in the bible it was written by, again, godly men! Get your facts straight please!

And for those who say there have been "gays" who have changed, ask yourself are they truly happy? Or did they just change who they are out of fear, not a fear of God, but a fear of man judging them?

I guess I just don't understand how we as Christians who will one day be judged have the right to judge others. I am not mad it just hurts my heart but Jesus does not allow that hurt to stay on my soul because I know in the end when I meet Him He will thank me and hold me close to Him for loving all of those who His father created.

You are a very nice person and it makes me happy to see Chrstians with a sense of decency and love for thy fellow man. You, and others like you, are what shuts me up when I start labelling Christians as mean biggoted people.
Keep up the good work!
Peace!

Great question, but it sure brought out some haters!
I believe the Bible was written by men and some of it is fallible, but I'll play along for a minute - the Bible says this person or that person shall be put to death... where does it follow that YOU are supposed to be the one to do it?
There are more instances in in the Bible that tell use we are to lead only by example, and that we should give our best to the lowliest. That seems like a much holier lifestyle than trying to be God's vengeful right hand.

No matter what we call ourselves or what we want to chose to accept. There is only one truth, the WORD OF GOD. We accept it or we don't. Homosexuality is a sin. I don't hate homosexuals but the truth hurts. The Word of God cuts hard like a two edged sword.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
1 Timothy 1
9Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
1 Corinthians 6:2
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Luke 12:51
Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

I am sure that the Christian belief is not the only one that does NOT approve of homosexuality. So quit bashing Christians! We live in America, Freedom of Religion and Freedom from Religion!
If your gay friends feel that their God is giving them the green light to live like they do, then so be it! They will be the one who reaps the reward or the punishment, not you or the people you are complaining about.

A popular sentiment today is that the Bible is increasingly irrelevant in a modern age of scientific enlightenment. Thus, when the Scripture’s condemnation of homosexuality is referenced it is not uncommon to see expressions of polite exasperation etched on the faces of the masses. After all, the Bible not only condemns homosexuality but also clearly teaches that Sabbath breakers must be put to death (Exod. 35:2).
First, it should be noted that while Sabbath breaking had serious ramifications within ancient Israel, it is not a precedent for executing people today. Not only are we no longer under the civil and ceremonial laws of a Jewish theocratic form of government, but as the apostle Paul explains, the symbolism of the law has been fulfilled in Christ (Gal. 3:13–14). In his letter to the Colossian Christians, Paul underscores the Christian’s freedom from adherence to Sabbath laws by pointing out that “these are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ” (Col. 2:17 NIV). Thus, there is an obvious difference between enduring moral principles regarding homosexuality and temporary civil and ceremonial laws relegated to a particular historical context.
Furthermore, we would do well to recognize that the God of the Bible does not condemn homosexuality in an arbitrary and capricious fashion; rather, He carefully defines the borders of human sexuality so that our joy may be complete. It does not require an advanced degree in physiology to appreciate the fact that the human body is not designed for homosexual relationships. Spurious slogans and sound bites do not change the scientific reality that homosexual relationships are devastating not only from a psychological but also from a physiological perspective.
Finally, far from being irrelevant and antiquated, the Bible’s warnings regarding homosexuality are eerily relevant and up to date. In the book of Romans, Paul aptly describes both the perversion and the penalty: “Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion” (Rom. 1:26–27 NIV, emphasis added). It would be difficult to miss the relationship between Paul’s words and the current health care holocaust. More people already have died worldwide from AIDS than the United States of America has lost in all its wars combined. This is but the tip of an insidious iceberg. The homosexual lifestyle causes a host of complications including hemorrhoids, prostate damage, and infectious fissures. Even that merely scratches the surface. Nonviral infections transmitted through homosexual activity include gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. Viral infections involve condylomata, herpes, and hepatitis A and B.
While there are attendant moral and medical problems with sexual promiscuity in general, it would be homophobic in the extreme to obscure the scientific realities concerning homosexuality. It is a hate crime of unparalleled proportions to attempt to keep a whole segment of the population in the dark concerning such issues. Thus, far from demonstrating that the Bible is out of step with the times, its warnings regarding homosexuality demonstrate that it is as relevant today as it was in the beginning.

I totally agree we should never judge because we haven't the information available to us that God has on which to make a judgment. However homosexuality is without a doubt sin and I will never think of it as being alright with God. But he without sin should cast the first stone.
Take care and may God bless you spiritually.

If your father were gay this wouldn't even be a question. And young lady you sound to me as hatefull as those you rail about.... furthermore the statements about us knowing our bodies better than pre christian people is ubsurd. You might try removing your lips from the teet of the tree of knowledge and look for the other tree...You know ...the tree of life. There sprouts the hardest fruit to swallow, The fruit of non judgement...of love...of patience...and of forgiveness..The path of spirituality is Hard because it takes ones complete focus to be just barely good at it,thus the fact we are just human. And by the way I personally struggled with causes that were relavent to me, that somehow had the power of distracting me from my true goal which was and still is Unsuffering. We are not earthly beings seeking a spiritual life as much as we are all,Spiritual beings living an earthly existence. Try being mad at satan for a while...you might find balance.

And just who do you propose wrote God's Word??? God wrote it, and it does not matter if it was written yesterday or 2,000 years ago. God knows His creation best and His Word is to be highly favored above what man thinks, and He is very clear about His feelings about homosexuality and all other sins. It is wrong to rally with signs that say God hates anyone. He died for all sinners, but understand...his dying does not give you, me, or any other person the right to "go against His teachings" and still expect His mercy / forgiveness. So far as you hanging out with those who live contrary to God's Word is not a compliment to your relationship with the Lord. We are to be in the world, but not of the world. He who walk with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers much harm. I can tell you have been hanging out with non-Christians because you think like them. Calling sin "sin" is NOT judging. You can't show me one place in Scripture that says a Christian is to be a coward, whimp, and just preach "Jesus loves you" and not warn people of the cost of rejecting God. Jesus' whole purpose was to teach, lead, and warn...and we are called to do no less. We are a city set on the hill for every man to see. Quit hiding your light for Christ, or you will lose it.

People hide behind the Bible as an excuse to do evil. There are some churches that use the Bible to promote racism. The Bible can be interpreted in many ways. Sadly, there are those who use it to justify their hatred of those who are different. One thing it does state is "Love thy neighbor as thyself". This is the passage I live by. Color or sexual orientation isn't a reason to hate anyone.

We all do! You don't, neither do I.
I don't hate them, spew hate toward any, or judge them for anything. If they are born that way, chose that life, or whatever reason. None of my business. Judge not. Did you read that line in the Bible my dear Christian sister! When they meet their maker. He can deal with them, as He will deal with my sins.
Dear the Bible also says. "Let those without sin cast the first stone." Are you my dear, my sister in humanity without sin! pleasure to meet you.

I think that even Biblically, the issue is complex and still under dispute as to whether homsexuality is a sin or not. Who am I to judge, if scholars can't agree on this point.
You focus specifically on this issue, however, I see a lot of hate and condemnation spread on this board by Christians for far too many reasons.
I agree. We really need to model Christ's grace, mercy, and love. Until we do that as a group, who would even want to take us seriously?
