Cut the portion that you want from the cell you're using. Create the new cell. Paste in the information you cut from the old cell. Save the new worksheet.

Depends on how the original file was set up.

Let's use Word as an example:
If fields (individual items of information) are separated by commas or tabs --

Open a new Excel file
click Open
you will come to the Open screen
at the bottom, where it says filetype - click the down arrow to select "text"
your text file should display
click the file, then click open
the file will read in
immediately click File, Save as - and save as filetype Excel

Depending on your version, you may be asked how the fields are separated - comma, tab...
if it is separated by commas or tabs, you will have to indicate that

I think you will be able to follow the prompts from there.

To open up the columns, click the "table select" button in Excel (left of A, above #1)
the whole file will be selected
click Format
cl Column
cl autofit
*******************************
If your fields are not properly separated by tabs or commas, you have a big job ahead of you. You will have to go back into the Word document, put a comma between fields, and a Return at the end of each line.
Each line is a "record."
Each record should have the same number of fields.
If you do not have information for a field, type a comma.

Click on the cell you want to copy. Hold the left mouse button down over the bottom right corner of the cell. You should see a + sign. Still holding the left button down, just drag the box down as far as you want. The same info will be in all boxes.
