Religion by definition is a way of life. So technically speaking, it is supposed to be the manual on how to live life. As an appliance manual would not teach you to destroy the appliance, religion will not teach you to destroy yourself.

I don't believe so... I think that everyone believes what they believe to the point *they* want to take it... I think that religion and faith are fairly innocent ways to get through life... some people just can't handle thinking they have no control and others feel the opposite. I 100% believe in my heart that there is a God and He created me just the way I am and He loves me... if I choose to press this on others I feel I have let it corrupt me... but I think... people corrupted religion.

Anything can be corrupting if a person is not in the right heart. Take a look at the world. There are corrupted preachers, corrupted politicians, corrupted teachers and policemen and fireman, even parents. There are also those who give up themselves and do it according to Gods way.

I was raised in a reform Jewish home, and still practice. I was raised to be tolerant of others to the point of being respectful and curious about other belief systems. The sad part is I really like this site to learn about others, but am becoming increasingly aware of how few people like me there are. It's sad, but I am becoming of the belief that people use religion as an excuse for evil against one another....and this is every religion. Maybe John Lennon was right!

Religion is not corruptive. However, people corrupt religion and misuse it for their own selfish purposes. Osama Bin Laden is a perfect example of one who corrupts and perverts religion.

Nope. But corrupted peoples makes the religion looks corruptive.
I think that all religion teaches good no matter what pattern it makes.

No. The power that comes through hierarchal authority within a religious structure is corruptive. However, this is true in all forms of government, and not just religious government.

Religion, contrary to popular belief, is government of faith, not faith itself. As such, it can be corrupting, just as public office can be. The key is knowing the line, and not crossing it. Many people who get into religious positions of power end up using those positions for their own ends, which is extremely unfortunate.
