personally I don't know of all pet shops have puppies from mills. I know PetSmart has an adoption for dogs and puppies every so often, which is running by an actual adoption agency, not the petstore themselves.
If you are looking at a puppy at a petstore that you like, but don't want one from a puppy mill, you can always ask. There, of course, is a chance that they would lie, but it's always good. Ask different people the same question.

Yes, all pet shops that sell puppies & kittens get their "stock" from puppy & kitten mills. And yes, even though it is puppy mills that get all the attention, there are also sickos out there running kitten mills. No reputable professional breeder would EVER sell his or her puppies to a pet store. If you ask a pet store owner, they will tell you "oh no, we buy from breeders" - what they actually mean is they buy from "commercial breeders" , which is just another way of saying PUPPY MILL. So, if you owned a pet shop and wanted to avoid all the negativity - you would sell pet supplies, pet foods, pet toys, pet books and educational materials, perhaps tropical fish and maybe a few birds, you would have your store open to rescue groups and shelters for "adoption days" events and you would never, never, never (did I say NEVER) sell dogs, cats, puppies, kittens!!

It isn't the puppy BUYERS you have to prove yourself too -- It's the people YOU get the puppies from and to be honest when THEY can't look in the person that getting the pups eye and shake their hand its unlikely a reputable breeder will let the pup go to any "resale" establishment. Its actually in the code of ethics of most breed clubs not to do so ..... SO unfortunately to only place to get dogs for resale is the not so reputable breeders. Maybe a service like a real estate agent?
By the way all those "We only get pups from USDA licensed kennels" are saying their getting from mills - USDA only licenses mills - admittedly that means they are not the worst mills (they would have to actually give the dogs food & water to pass USDA inspection) but .....

Yes. Pet shops are vicious fronts for evil puppy mills.
To prove yourself as a responsible pet shop owner, you would not sell puppies, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, no animals, zilch. You would sell food and supplies.

I even have a lovevird and he's large yet needs countless interest and takes greater time for practise. i think of the terrific starter fowl could be a cockatiel. My chum has one and he's so candy. They learn rapidly and connect with you fantastically early on. The each and on a daily basis household projects comprise feeding them seed, pellets and different nutritious issues like vegetables and fruit. you will would desire to alter the water a minimum of two situations an afternoon to make beneficial that there is not any bacteria interior the water dish. cleansing the cage each 2 weeks has worked properly for me inspite of the undeniable fact that some might propose as quickly as a week. you will decide to spend a while with your new fowl daily practising step united statesand whistles. the fee for a cage, fowl, food and toys would be around $one hundred fifty - $3 hundred reckoning on the place you get it. make beneficial the fowl you p.c.. is healthful and happy. If the feathers are no longer looking severe-high quality then the fowl could be somewhat depressed or no longer have been cared for alright on the puppy save. carry the fowl and notice if there's a connection before you basically p.c.. one. desire you locate a large puppy!

No. Not all pet stores are fronts for puppy mills. A lot of them are, but definitely not all.
There is a local pet store in my town that has been here for about fifteen years. They have puppies for sale there, and I've even purchased one from them.
All of their puppies come from local AKC or CKC registered breeders, come with a puppy profile, weekly vet checks, a guarantee, the phone number of the breeder, pictures and information on the parents, a care sheet on that breed and how to handle common puppy problems (housebreaking, training, etc) and a free package of puppy food.
Personally, I think if someone is going to sell puppies in stores, then that pet store is doing it correctly. My puppy, over a year later, is very healthy, friendly, cute, and I couldn't be happier with him.
I hope this helps! :)

Yes they are all from puppymills or backyard breeders. How could someone with a petstore get around the negativity? How could they?? No self respecting, responsible breeder would EVER allow their puppies to be sold thru a petstore.. No way, not gonna happen, no ifs ands or buts about it.. Just plain will NOT happen..

you work with a shelter and have something that says that the company does not promote the inhumane settings of puppy mills. state that you work with the shelter. you could even have an adoption day at the store and have a lot of adult dogs, cats, rodents, etc for adoption outside and have the younger kittens, puppies, etc inside. where do you get the animals from?

1st of all, no reputable breeder of quality, healthy pups/dogs would sell their pups/dogs to a pet store!
They get most of their "stock" from BYB's that weren't able to sell their puppies through newpaper or internet ads, as well as Puppymills (both purebred and mixed breeds) and Commercial Breeders (which aren't any better than puppymills).
If I had a pet shop, I would carry pet supplies, food, grooming needs, training supplies, toys....etc.... but no sale of animals.
