There is a difference pychics work under a familiar spirit which is a form of witchcraft and the prophecies in the church are thru the gifts of the Holy Ghost,a word of wisdom ,word of knowledge ,prophecy is edification and its thru the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in the churches that are Holy Ghost filled. Some psychics that are going to be called into the body of Christ may have a prophetic ability and are using it wrong under demonic influence, were they should go to a church God directs them to use it properly

Prophetic words are backed up biblically--and if psychics believe people are in heaven they can't sell that story about dead people wanting to communicate with them. They are in the best place they can be--and they are not concerned about what we are doing. There is no sadness in heaven--so why would they want to be a part of our lives anymore--they are with the Almighty, the Great I Am. You should read up about prophecies and then you will learn that His people are used as vessels to convey His words to the church, with a biblical foundation. A prophecy does not prey on people's loss and emptiness--it edifies, and lifts you up with biblical words from our Father.

The prophets do not pretend to see a person's future as the psychic psalmists do. A prophet is inspired by G-d to warn the people of an event foretold long ago, yet forgotten amidst the 60" plasma TVs and variegated hand held electronic time wasters.

Great question! The way some Christians rationalize boggles the mind and I'm a Christian. The way they believe in something depends upon their belief system. If it is contradictory, then they find a way to rationalize if they want it to be true. Humans can't hold two opposing opinions at the same time. Psychologically, this is a fact. Therefore, rationalization comes into play and many times it brings illogical thinking.

First of all, it depends on the church, I haven't heard of many Lutherans giving out prophecy (though I'm sure it can happen.)

The thing is, is that prophecies are a gift from God that you can't seek, you can't make them happen, you can't by any means of your own bring them about -- thus my extreme suspicion of "prophecy gatherings" where a whole bunch of people get together around a so-called prophet and expect the prophet to come up with prophecy for them.

Psychics claim the ability to use their skill any way they want, to be able to bring it about through means of their own, to hone their own skill, and to be able to use it at will.

Now, my own pet theory as to why this is wrong and true prophecy (rare!) is not. I believe that before the fall, we probably had some way of being individuated from each other, but still, able to commune in a more direct (soul to soul) manner, both with each other, and with God.

However, once the fall ocurred, only God can reach through to try and heal the breach, and lead the church through any similarly soul to soul manner. With the exception of individual prayer. However, many times, even in individual prayer we have trouble even sensing God's presence because of the breach caused by the fall. When God chooses to, though, He can reach through that breach to communicate with us.

Psychics, then, would be, to my mind, trying to reach through that breach on their own power to heal the divide that seperated us from that more intimate means of communication. Which, of course, they can never do on their own power. Any attempts to do so on their own power circumvents God's will, and His power to heal the breach.

True Christian Prophets, on the other hand, cannot seek it or make it happen, it is simply a gift from God. A very rare gift of God. Much rarer than some of the prophecy show people would like to admit.

I've never heard prophecy in church, except at pentecostal churches. I'm very suspect of it since God has revealed everything about himself in the bible. Do these people contradict the bible? Are they 100 percent right? If not, its just emotional hysteria. I consider these people evil too if they try and deceive people or interrupt worship services with meaningless babble.

Those Christians who profess to tell the future, do so under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is up to other Christians to decide if they are genuine or not. Psychics who are generally not Christians are not under the guidance of the Holy Spirit but under the guidance of the only other supernatural power - demons.

The source of prophecies is God, who has your best in mind. The source of psychics are demons, who have your worst in mind. They come to destroy you.

Even prophets of God are to be checked to see if their message is consistent with the Bible.

Because psychics use stars, and signs from nature, while Prophets -true Prophets- recieve visions from God, meant to convey a very important message to God's people.
