The Catholic Church teaches against torture and is actively trying to stop torture:

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

Torture which uses physical or moral violence to extract confessions, punish the guilty, frighten opponents, or satisfy hatred is contrary to respect for the person and for human dignity.

If the bible said it was so... then in a later chapter disagreed with itself... Christians would ask their preacher his opinion... he would decide which way would make the church more money, respond accordingly... and that would be the new "law of god."
