When it comes to celery, it has so few calories, that the body basically expends more energy just digesting it.

Grapefruit is even more interesting. A 12-week study of 100 obese men and women and found that consuming one half grapefruit before meals resulted in an average weight loss of 3.6 pounds with some participants losing up to 10 pounds. Individuals who ate the grapefruit had significantly lower levels of insulin in their blood, which the researchers speculate resulted in the weight loss. The smaller the amount of insulin in the blood after a meal, the more efficiently the body uses food for energy rather than storing it as fat. The researchers further speculated that a natural plant compound in grapefruit, not the fiber content, was responsible for the weight loss since those who consumed grapefruit juice also lost weight despite the lack of fiber.

not enough to be measured.

in terms of the amount of energy that it takes to digest food items proteins cause the greatest thermogenic effect, then carbohydrates then fats. the higher the thermogenic effect the greater the increase in the metabolic rate and fatty acid oxidation. body composition also plays a large role. the greater the amount of lean muscle mass the greater the increase in the metabolic rate there will be. so those with much higher than average amounts of body fat will not see as much of an increase in the metabolic rate as another person at the same weight but with less body fat.

vegetables do not cause much much of a thermogenic effect and anyone that says other wise has done no real research on the thermogenic effects of foods (TEF).

No. No foods burn fat. To lose weight you need to decrease the amount of food, of any kind, that you eat and to increase exercise.

A good weight loss plan is to eat about 1200 calories a day with 5-10 servings of fruit and veggies, 3-6 servings of complex carbs, 2-3 servings of milk or milk products, 2-3 servings of protein (meat, legumes or eggs) daily and to take a brisk walk for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
