When I turn my one PC on, it a message comes up that Windows has not loaded properly. It gives me the option to start in safe mode, start with last known good config or start Windows normally. I have extensively tried each of these options, but it only gets so far as the Windows XP logo with the blue progress bar before restarting and having the same problem. I have turned the PC off and on and tried again, but no luck. Please help, I don't want to have to reformat.

I think the best solution for you is to use your Windows installation disk to do a "Repair" install.

You'll want to turn the machine on, put the disk in, then turn the machine off.

When you turn the computer on again, press any key to boot from the CD.

Before the machine will load installation files, you'll be given the option to do a "clean install" or a "repair." Obviously, you'll be doing the repair.

In your case, the problem is with Windows rather than with your computer. If the Windows files are corrupt, the best place to insure you fix this problem is with the default system files.

Don't reformat, but do a restore. If you happen to have a windows CD, when you insert it in you will have a chance to repair your windows installation by pressing 'R' on the console for repair and allowing windows to repair itself you will not lose any data.

If you could go in through safe-mode, I suggest doing a system restore and restore to an earlier point when everything worked fine.

Repair should do the trick though, goodluck.

Agreed with dangerst. Repair should work. Also one time that happened to me and I powered down my pc,unplugged the power cord, pressed the power button to completely release all energy, and waited 30 seconds- 2 minutes. Plugged the power back in and then restarted. That worked for me but no guarantee for all problems.

Take your computer to a professional, they will be able to diagnose what is wrong. It could be quite a few things...anything from a hardware problem, to a driver or software problem. Hard to say without looking at it.
