ok, I run between 3 and 4 miles a day, then I workout calisthenics (pushups, sit ups, lunges and etc, for about 30 min.) and I finish it with I circuit workout around the machines I have at my disposition. I do this around 5 days a week. Yesterday I arrived late at the gym so I only did the running part. Today, I did not feel like going, so I stayed at home, but I am going tomorrow. Am I going to start gaining weight?
I also get very paranoid about missing a day. Is that normal?
Right now I am freaking out that my metabolism is going to slow dow and I am going to get fat because of those two days.

You should always take at least one rest day. Rest days are critical to sports performance for a variety of reasons . Some are physiological and some are psychological. In the worst case scenario, too few rest and recovery days can lead to overtraining syndrome -- a difficult condition to recover from.

Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair, rebuild and strengthen. There are limits to how much stress the body can tolerate before it breaks down and risks injury.A good training routine balances exercise with rest and recovery. Professional athletes know the benefits and necessity of rest days. There is much good information on the web related to the benefits of balanced rest/exercise. Spend a rest day researching the thought.

It is an alternation of adaptation and recovery that takes athletes to a higher level of fitness. High-level athletes know that the greater the training intensity and effort the greater the need for planned recovery. Overtraining will cause you to NOT make the gains you desire. You might take a rest day to search the net for information on Overtraing Syndrome.

I use my rest days to plan my running and exercise program for the up-coming week, get a massage, take a leisurly walk, catch up on reading my running magazines, spend time with my family....

It is wonderful to hear your into a healthy lifestye but remember to balance your home life with your exercise. Both are important. And don't worry. Unless you use your rest days to "hog out" you will not gain weight.

After suffering the same guilt as you on days I didn't exercise I have learned to enjoy my rest days and know that they are necessary and beneficial to my training program and health.

Studies show that skipping up to two weeks of working out will not cause weight gain in people who exercise regularly. I am not recommending this, but just letting you know that yes, you are being a little paranoid. You are stressing about it which is bad because too much stress causes women to retain fat. Too much exercise can be unproductive as well. Your body will get used to the workout you are doing and you will reach a plateau where you workout but don't see results. 4-5 times a week for an hour-hour 1/2 is an ideal plan for most people. Make sure you are gradually raising resistance to see results.

I doubt if two days will mess up,,, all the conditioning your doing for yourself,,, besides some times,,, your body needs you to give it a day or two off,,, Although the body is the best machine ever built,, its also able to burn out unlike a machine built by man,,, so take a day off you deserve it,,, your only giving your body a chance to heal and rest,,, you put it through a lot in a course of 1 day,,, besides did you know that exercise AND rest is needed for weight loss??

It is not unusual for girl's periods to be very irregular for the first couple of years. They can be just some brown spotting or last for 3-10 days depending on the person. Some girls even miss a few months until their hormones develop. When you get regular, your period will start anywhere from 25-35 days apart and all are normal, but most are usually about 28 days. welcome to womanhood..

any type of weight training (even resistance training like at the circuit training) needs to have a regular break for your muscles to heal, thats how they get stronger. 2 days off isnt going to make you fat. in fact many people will do strength training one day, then cardio the next, to give their muscles the time they need to repair themselves. it sounds like you need to read up on how the body works and about metabolism. i suggest http://sparkpeople.com its has many great resources, and lots of wonderful people that will help you get over these fears. it sounds like you might be bordering on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder with the excising and really need to get some real facts about healthy lifestyles

The only way one day will hurt you, is if you enjoy taking that day off too much! :-) I am always afraid of stopping because I know once I quit I won't pick it back up. Two days, one day, a few days, won't hurt you. Just make sure you pick right back up where you started.

Being paranoid about missing a day...obsessing...allowing it to ruin your day...yes...might be Obsessive/Compulsive.

NOT GOOD

If you're freaking out...then you need to analyze why...exactly...you work out in the first place.

you can't do anything about yesterday...so move on...tomorrows another day.

two days will not make a difference, two weeks would.
