God does want good things for us.
But getting close to God does not mean that God is obliged to make your life completely happy, only because you are following Him.
Following God means you will still have heart-aches and problems in your life. It also means that God is there giving you the strength to work through these bad events.
That friend that you trusted betrayed your trust because of his/her free will. God never interferes with a person's free will.

Now you know your friend is not your friend. A real friend would not steal from you. They would give.
You how ever can show yourself as the friend you would have liked him or her to be.
What ever your faith is go buy him or her a CD on what you believe and give it to the person who has stolen from you, then pray and put the person into GOD'S hands and wait on HIM to change the persons heart or correct the persons path.
Trust GOD, don't take the person out of GOD'S hands. Let GOD do his work. You will either get a new one, or your friend will feel conviction and bring it back.

I believe that the closer we get to God the more that we are attacked by 'evil' forces trying to 'break' our faith or resolve to know God.
Newcomers to God seem to be more vulnerable to these things happening more often than those who are seasoned deeper in their faith.
Then again some who do not know God have a tendency to think that we are weak and they believe that they have a right to take advantage of us.
Let this make your relationship stronger with God.
God Bless!!

I guess he wasn't your friend then, was he?
Yes, God wants good things for us, but the devil doesn't. As we draw closer to God, the devil causes those who he has control over to raise up against us. Be careful. He has control over a lot of people who on the outside appear to be Christians. (Mat 7:15) He does this to try to turn you away from God, and intimately to question his existence. Your proper response would be to draw even closer still.

But he also tests us on which path we're taking: the good or the evil. Now when your friend stole your hp you could've gone and beat him up and make him give it back to you, or you could be sincere and talk to him about it and ask him why he stole it.

If you think that getting closer to God is going to make your life easier then your barking up the wrong tree. Following God in most cases makes your life harder, but all in all, in the end its the hardships that made it all worth it.

God wants good things to happen to us, but He doesn't promise that they will. Study your Bible, his followers didn't lead lives of roses and moonlight, but of sacrifice and sometimes pain that was repaid with His eternal life and love. Satan knows when you're getting farther and farther away from him, so he throws anything he can at you. He wants to make you doubt God, and return to him. Don't let him win.

You find out who your true friends are when you are a Christian.(assuming that's what you are) I found out who mine are. I don't have many left from before I accepted Jesus, but I do have many new brothers and sisters who love me with all their hearts! The world hated Jesus, and Jesus said the world would hate us, too. We accept that when we give our lives over to Him. He said to be "in" the world, not "of" the world. People can be cruel. Even friends. They can make fun of you behind your back. These are not true friends. Please don't let that discourage you. Tell them about God and His love. Maybe they will accept Him, also.
