Alrighty, they are moving to Fort Benning from OCONUS. They currently have 3 daughters who live with them full time, ages 6, 4, and 2. Her husband has 1 daughter age 4, and a son who is turning 7 who will be living with them 50/50 a year. She is also pregnant with a son due January, lol. Just curious to see if anyone knows anything about how many rooms she'd be entitled to since I can't find any definite literature on it.

the absolute largest Base housing Bedroom wise is 5. and there is usually less than ten on any given base. there will be slightly more 4 BR homes. Thelargest number of base housing units are 3 bedrooms.

That being said, the chances of them actually GETTING any of them will be based on the waiting list. for bedroom entitlement though, they will only count the three girls, unless he has full custody of the other two( split custody doesn't count)

the bedroom regs state: all children under six share a bedroom. same gender under 12 share and everyone over 12 is entitled to their own room. if housing sticks to this religiously( and some have the ability to deviate) all she would be entitled to is a 3 BR unit..her and her spouse, and the younger girls sharing a room with the 6 year old getting her own. If housing is full, they will most likely only offer them a 3 BR unit. if there is no huge waiting list for 4 BR units, they may get lucky.

Either way, they shoul;d expect to have to wait some time, and in fact may have better luck getting a place in town, especially if they really want a 4 or 5 BR unit. those tend to have the longest waiting lists over all, and are shared by every paygrade from E1 to O6

The largest house in base housing that I know of (for enlisted anyway) is a four bedroom. A few places may have a five, but not many! Since the majority of the children are girls and all of them are under the age of six, my bet is they would assign them a four bedroom as there is no reason the girls could not double up and the boys share a room as well. The size of the rooms can vary...some older housing is much smaller, but I would think his rank would help get him a better unit.

I would think the bigger problem is that they will most likely have to find a place off base while waiting for on base housing. Housing is issued by rank, and there are fewer units as rank goes up. Add in that they will need a larger unit and they could be off base for up to a year. Moving back from overseas usually does not entitle them to be moved into housing ahead of the current list (although there can be exceptions).

Your friend's husband should be able to call the housing office on Ft. Benning and get pretty accurate info on sizes of houses and the waiting period. Your friend can also call to ask those general questions.

If they have housing available for a big family, they will get that house, if no one else is living in it. They would be entitled to at least a 5 bedroom, because two of the girls are the same age.
If housing is not available to fit all their kids, then they will probably have to live off base, which would be real expensive for him. BAH only covers so much. If I were him, I would take the largest house they can offer, so he could save some money, since he has to feed them all too.

4. One for the 6 and 4 year old. One for the 2 year old and the other daughter that stays 50/50/ One for them and one for the boy. Different gender children can only share a room up to six years old. Same gender up to 12.
