I don't know why but ever since I was a kid it has always been a tradition that if any members of my family (including grandparents, aunts, cousins) go abroad they have to come back with a couple bars of toblerone. Then we all meet up and share it out while we chat about how the holiday was.
So me and my family are the the weirdo's buying the giant toblerone in the airport, it taste's so good!

Toblerone is a quality product and known all over the world, that's maybe one reason to be sold on every airport in the world. Toblerone, the legendary triangular Swiss chocolate with honey and almond nougat, made by Kraft, is always a very much liked small gift. Toblerone is produced under licence in many countries, but the ones sold on airports are Swiss Original Products, therefore higher in price.

People waiting in airports are bored - bored people spend money to aleviate the boredom. Most items available e.g. a Gucci watch are out of the casual budget range so a bar of chocolate is a good alternative. People are attracted by Toblerone's clever, quirky packaging.

Cause it's very popular, and it'll do if you've forgotten to bring somebody else a present, lol. But you're right, you have to be out of your mind to pay airport prices.

I eat them all the time.
They are expensive, but they are the BEST chocolate bar.
It's sort of like would you rather drive a Cadillac or a Hyundai?
