I am looking for a good quality camcorder that can take still digital photos, any recomendations?

I would like to stay in the $400- $500 range

My miniDV camcorder is a couple years old, but i have never been satisfied with the quality of the still photos. It was priced about 3x your budget. The latest/greatest models may be improved.

I would say the Sanyo Xacti E1. It's waterproof, takes digital still photos at 6.0 Megapixels resolution and records quite well at 680x320 res. The MSRP is $499.99.
