That is so sweet, I wish my mom could afford to fly me and my Marine husband home. We have to pinch pennies to be able to afford to drive home for Christmas. If this isnt a suprise, ask your son-in-law, he can get milatary fare on most airlines. Sometimes the tickets are as low as $300. When my husband came home from boot camp, well he wasnt my husband at teh time, we got mariied between bootcamp and MCI training, anyways he flew from Pendleton to Illinois for like $360.

Look for flights out of San Diego to Lansing. Yahoo has a pretty good travel section also orbitz or check the airline website directly. Does southwest go to any airports near you? The military offers discounts sometimes. If you're flexible with travel dates you should be able to get under a grand.

Is there a military base close to you? I know when my dad was in the air force we could ride along on any military flight.
