Ok, I am dead sick, of bike riders, taking up a main road and they back up the whole street, they get pissed off when you trail behind them....I can't understand, why they can't go on the damn sidewalk. That should be plain *** illegal! How is this allowed, it is not only a safety hazard, but common sense.

I did not know it was illegal to bike-ride on sidewalks, but it is hazardous no matter what anyone says! I don't care if you ride a bike or not, but every bike ride purposely takes their jolly good ol' time, doesn't signal or look when they cross, but yet expect you to! ya, they go on major roads and I don't think that is acceptable, and I am all for helping the environment but riding at night, and on main roads hell no!

Bikes are transportation just like cars, and, believe it or not, your feet.

Cyclists are expected to follow most of the same rules of the road as motor vehicles. You would do well to review those. Judging by what I see around me, cyclists and motorists both have forgotten a lot of them.

Out in the country, it isn't that hard to pass a cyclist, and doesn't delay you more than a few seconds at most. If that taxes your patience and driving skills, you probably shouldn't be driving.

Commuting by bike to work, I find that most of the time I can stay with traffic, so I'm not holding up anyone. In fact, I'm taking up less space and using no gas, leaving more of both for you and your pig of an SUV.

A little time on a bike would take some of the stress and adrenaline out of your system and make you a much better and more patient driver.

The bike riders are blocking the street for a reason; some people don't know how to pass a bike safely. If the road is too narrow to pass the bike, then , unfortunately, you have to wait untill the road widens.

If you would ride a bike, you would see that there are some kamikazi motorists out there. Some are drunk, but most of them are just plain crazy.

You are wasting your time complaining to the bicyclists.
The road is too narrow, so start or sign a petition to have the road widened.

You should remember that the stretch of road is too narrow and chose a different route in the future.

You should consider getting a bike (bicycle, scooter, or motorcycle). Then if you want to go faster there will be enough space to pass. Motorcycles can go as fast as a car, but can get past bicycles easier, without crossing the yellow line.

You should admit that your car is too damn big, and get a moped or a motor scooter.

Other things block traffic more than bicycles-Farm tractors for instance.

You should get a bike, it's the only immediate solution to your problem. It will save you gas and money.

Eventually, the road gets wider and there is room to pass.

There is too much sand, gravel and debris on the roads, and cyclists have to go around it.

Where the hell do you have to go in such a hurry?

Why don't you pass by crossing the yellow line, when there's no cars coming the other way?

Are you from the City or the Country? Are you proud of the fact that you people got so many damn cars out in the country nowadays , that it's like a city? And you are contributing to it by choosing a car ? Why don't you get a bike?

After you are done assaulting the men on bikes, I assume you will go after the women and children? Is this not so?

Tell you what. You go stand on the sidewalk with your kids and let me ride into you at 25 mph. Then you will understand why it's illegal to ride on a sidewalk. Relax a little. If a bike is really slowing you down from getting you to where you are going...leave a little earlier. Last time I checked, it only take a few seconds to wait for on-coming traffic to pass so you can get by a cyclist.

Now if the cyclist's you are speaking of are riding directly in the middle of the lane you have a legitimate argument. We should be staying as far right as possible, given the circumstances.

Bicycles are vehicle, just like a car, truck, or motorcycle - according to most state and provincial laws.

This means they have to obey pretty much the same traffic laws that motorists do, and some additional ones as well. On the other hand, there's ones that motorists have to obey that bicycles don't - like not driving on the shoulder of the road.

The usual rule is that riders are allowed to travel "at their best speed" in such a fashion that they do not "impede the normal flow" of traffic. This means they're normally entitled to about 18 inches (30 cm) of road surface between the center stripe and the marked shoulder, in additrion to the shoulder itself.

If the bicyclists are taking up the complete roadway (which is not the same thing as the lane you're trying to use, by the way), then they are possibly obstructing traffic - in terms of oncoming traffic, at least. Is there really any need to be traveling faster than about 15 mph (25 kmh) in a residential neighborhood where children and pets can (and do) come out into the street at any time? I don't think so ... therefore they're not impeding YOUR flow of traffic.

It is as illegal for a bicyclist to ride on the sidewalk (or other area set aside for pedestrian use) as it is for a motor vehicle operator.

All that being said - there are riders out there who ignore (or simply don't know) the rules ... just as there are drivers who do the same. It isn't really fair to brand all the apples the same - otherwise, the cyclists would be lobbying to have the DRIVERS taken off the streets for failure to stop at a stop sign, failing to indicate intent (turning), driving too fast for conditions (which isn't the same as speeding, although they could argue that one as well), and so on.

You are in the wrong question board man. What kind of a response do you expect here? Unfortunately, the legislatures of all 50 states do not agree with you. A bicycle is a vehicle..plain and simple. They were there before cars and will continue to be there. Not only is it good, clean, and cheap transportation...but it's our road as well. People who ride bikes pay their taxes and have every right to use the municipal service and roads as do drivers.

And regarding the danger - it's only dangerous if drivers don't give cyclists the respect they deserve. The vast majority of traffic accidents involving bikes are caused by drivers not properly yielding the right of way, exercising road rage, or just plain being pricks. It takes one cyclist to slow you down for a few seconds. But it just takes one car to kill us. So just be nice, will ya?

Simply drive around them, you douche! What's the matter, you can't control your two-ton POS as well as a cyclist controls their bike?

If a bike is in traffic, then they have every right to be there. They are to be treated like any other slow moving vehicle, and until you start whining your head off about "those damn farm tractors are always blocking traffic!" then stay home.

You know what should be illegal? Fat, lazy bastards who get a handicapped tag just because they're fat! Any vehicle that seats nine but carries one (sound like YOU?), and cellphone use while driving.

And this is a question and answer page, not an opinion page. You posted an opinion, not a question. If you knew anything about bike riding, you would know why it is NOT safe to ride on the sidewalk, unless you're under 12 years old. Many riders in this area go 25Mph, and more. Common sense ????????????

In many municipalities, riding your bike on the sidewalk is prohibited. Riding your bike on the street is not only allowed, but it is legal. The safety hazard is mostly to the bike rider, so no one feels all that sorry for the people in cars or trucks that complain. Pass them when you have the chance, turn off onto another street when you can, otherwise you just have to put up with it.

Common sense tells me it's NOT safe to ride on the sidewalk. Unless your bike still has training wheels ! Do you really want to see a pack of riders going 30Mph on the sidewalk ? !
